At what age did you have your first boyfriend or girlfriend? What age do you think a parent should allow a child to have one? I know you can't always prevent this but it seems to me when one of your children has one or doesn't is when a lot of problems start. What do you think?

I had my first real boyfriend at 14. ok so its young but i was more grown up than most 14yr olds. I did well in school, helped my school basketball team and had a job. I had a pretty decent social life. I dont think that having or not having a boyfriend or girlfriend is the problem. i think it is the child feeling like they dont get to go out and do what the older kids do is the problem, going on unsupervised dates, being alone. Thats the problem. they want to do things with the boyfriend or girlfriend that the older ones do and when they cant they rebel and try to do it anyway because they think theyre more grown than they are.

I totaly understand and will take all that to help with my decisions. Would you say the age of the boy makes a difference as well?

I was 16 when I had my first boyfriend. I think age 15 is a good starting time for things like that, but I wouldn't let my kids date until 16.

I kind of thought the same thing. Did you live in the city or the country? I live in the city and I'm still not so sure it is the best idea to let my daughter actually go on single dates at that age. What would you say?
