Last night I was towards the end of the book I was reading and I just had to see how it ended. Well, I did finish it sometime around 3 o'clock this morning. I can't believe I stayed up that late. It was worth a little loss of sleep. All By Myself, Alone by Mary Higgins Clark was well worth loosing a little shut eye. I may be glad I finished it last night but boy are my eyes drooping today. I am so tired that I am not really accomplishing much of anything today. Do you every stay up like that to finish a book? I used to do it all the time. That was when I was much younger. Now when I do that I can't keep my eyes open the next day. Hope everyone is having a healthy and happy day out there.

Not for a book, no. but for writing, or chatting with friends who needed it. Glad you enjoyed the book, but hope you sleep early tonight.

I'm retired so if I want to lay down for a nap in the middle of the day I do. I have all kinds of time when I can makeup my sleep. It sounds like you have a big heart.

@HazySue I have time to catch up too, but my body doesn't let me nap, and have trouble getting more than 3 hours of sleep most nights. unfortunately.

@Courtlynn I go through periods of time when I have a hard time sleeping. I can't imagine going through that for a long period of time.

Yes, I've done it. Not in a while though. Mary Higgins Clark is a good author and one you really can't put down, so I can understand you wanting to know how it ended before you went to bed. Her whodunit's would have kept you awake rather than let you sleep if you hadn't finished it.

@HazySue Two ways - We like to read, like some interesting novel or story or something. This is fun. We have to read, like study late for exam. This is depression.

I was up at that time too but I was desperately trying to sleep. This silly broken arm is driving me bonkers.

Yes I do this too when the book is good and you don't want to put it down. I am reading a book right now that is starting to get good so I'm sure I'll be like that with this one. I read for 2 hours last night but was in bed by 11pm. The only time I stay up til 3am is if I go to the drive in or something with my boyfriend. I can't stay up that late anymore.

I just seem to be glued to the book until the very end if it is a good one. I lose track of time.

Is that a new Mary Higgins Clark? I used to read hers all the timebut they kind of lost their luster for me after a while!

Pretty new. That happens sometimes. I put the author aside when that happens and try to go back after a year or so.

I am guilty of that as well, maybe 2 or 3 times It is kind of annoying but also gratifying at the same time, to finish a good book, but to lose that much sleep

It has to be a really good book for me to lose sleep. I love it when a book is good enough to lose sleep over.

I could only stay up until midnight when reading a book or watching something. That's because I'm an early bird. I could wake up early in the morning as early as 4am just to read a book but not stay up late till the wee hours of the morning.

@HazySue I used to sleep at 8pm, so waking up at 4am is still good enough for giving me that 8 hours of sleep.

@toniganzon It does sound like you get enough sleep. I can't fall asleep that early. My brain keeps wanting to be awake.

When I have only a few pages left, I do my best to keep my eyes open, but sometimes I wake up in the morning with my book on the floor.

@LadyDuck It can happen that way. I am more apt to fall asleep in front of a TV than a book.

That sounds like me. Try as I might, there are times when I can't put a good book down and I can't keep my eyes open. What a dilemma.

I used to be able to do that when I was young, but not so much anymore. Although some of the books lately have made me want to stay up, but I just can't function the next day if I do. I am glad that you enjoyed the book. I haven't read anything by her in years. I liked her books.

@HazySue I love when that happens too. I am reading one now that is becoming that way but the feeling comes and goes. It usually isn't the case with the authors other books but this one is a little different.

I had this situation when I was watching movies at night. It's late, but in order to get the result of the movie, I'll keep watching it. I know staying up late for a long time is not good for the body.
