Don't mess with old guys.

Some of us are so old, we were actually alive when Cream recorded Crossroads, even if we were too young to know what was going on. Now, us ex-younguns are middle aged, and some of us are trying to maintain what what was "cool" back in the day, before we knew what "cool" was. For our second encore the other night, we played Crossroads, written by Robert Johnson and made famous by Cream, and we actually rocked the joint. I'll attach Cream's 1968 live version. I still think it's one of the most "bad-assed" tunes in rock history. I'm starting to have delusions of adequacy on bass, and our lead guitar player is sounding more and more like Clapton each time we perform this. Can you think of times when you've exceeded your own expectations?
On March 10, 1968, Cream recorded a live version of "Crossroads" during a performance at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. It's my personal favorite ...

I'm 40 and I consider myself a middle aged woman. My childhood was listening to ABBA and the Beatles. I couldn't really think of the times when I have exceeded my own expectations as I seem to have none. But congratulations on your gig.

You have no expectations? I think you gotta have (realistic) goals.

Heh. I only worked up the nerve to sing lead now and then a few years ago.

I am doing nothing in this, just doing my routine and not messing up; however time is not for remaining neutral and it requires revolution.

@TheHorse Why not The Horse himself?

@yugocean I think it's good to have "role models," people whose ideas and techniques you emulate.

I always need goals, though none of them are grandiose. I merely want to be the next Jack Bruce or Phil Lesh.

I am surely "old", because I was a teenager when this song came out. Did I exceed my expectations? Several times, I never thought I would have been able to grow my veggies, to mow the lawn or take care of the garden.

@TheHorse I still remember how much my cousin laughed when I told her I was going to take care of a garden. Silly cousin.

Heh. I used to have a "black thum" and never thought that growing veggies would be part of my "curriculum" for working with children.

Oh yeah, everyday! Me a landlady? Talking to people like I do, asking for money. I never thought I would be where I am now in life.

I'm not so good at billing. My speaker "business" is motivated by...the desire to have quality vintage speakers out there being played. Criminal types can take advantage of me, though only one has done so.

@andriaperry Yep. But one former "customer" (a BS artist who blames adult ADD for his ways) owed me about $1500 and has gone into "hiding."

Playing a song that "bad-assed" is really fun. We also sometimes do "Hey Joe," which Hendrix covered.

@Hannihar I really am going to quit that one band called the Diablo Rhythm Wranglers. Our lead vocalist (a good singer) is a control freak and makes me uncomfortable. That will leave me in two bands, a country band and a rock 'n roll band. That's enough!

I liked them back then and still like some of their tunes. I didn't get this song though but I liked the beat.

It was sent to me last night (it's pretty good, except for the lead vocals). But I wouldn't know how to post it to this site.

By the time that terrible 1968 year of assassinations rolled around, I was deeply engrossed in work, still a Beatles fan and a folkie. I never did acquire a taste for loud rock and roll or Clapton. I am always surprised when I exceed my expectations. Maybe I should raise them.

I'm still a folkie at heart. But paying rock 'n roll is fun. I admit it.
