Obscure Words Aba

I thought I would continue my look at obscure words found on online sites, which opens up thousands of articles to come. The latest I see is Aba, which is a camel hair fabric cloak -coat often worn by arabs and other desert dwelling peoples. You see Sheiks wearing them in numerous movies, documentaries etc. They look light, and able to protect the wearer from the blazing Sun without being too heavy or sweaty too. The garment has a French origin, created by an explorer called A. T. d' Abbadie from who it takes its name. The word Aba also applies to an African electric fish and a portable kind of astronomical telescope. Youtube Aba fabric Arthur Chappell

I remember I have seen women clothing made with camel (or goat) air, long with long sleeves and they are called "abaya", I suppose from Aba.

@crossbones27 I like Abba - they did some great music. I hate Mamma Mia (the musical) though.
The beautiful title track from the "Arrival" album. Enjoy!

I once crocheted a shawl from camel hair. Someone who had a camel spun yarn from its hair and it was passed on to me to create a shawl. I was crocheting items for a craft shop at the time.

@arthurchappell I used what's called a Solomon's knot which is very lacy and makes the yarn go a lot further than some stitches. We didn't have a lot of yarn to play with.

This will be a very interesting series Arthur. I had not known the meaning of this word, unless it was spelled wrong for the band Abba lol
