Having an easy day in Melbourne, Victoria

After posting about our troubles with a blown tyre, I thought I’d update you to let you know that we had no trouble getting the problem solved on Monday morning. Luckily we only had about 100 kms to drive to the ferry which would take us from Tasmania to Victoria so we had time to call in at a very interesting steam museum on the day. We also drove through Deloraine but couldn’t find anywhere to park with the caravan behind so we had to keep going.
We stopped in Latrobe where we’d stayed before and I was able to visit an op shop (thrift shop) but get some more wool to crochet into beanies. I also bought a nice warm coat that took my eye.
The trip overnight on the ferry was very, very smooth. Sometimes the Bass Strait can be very rough indeed. The caravan park in Melbourne let us book in early which was much appreciated and now we’re having a lazy day till we visit our son this evening. Off to read some posts now.
The photo is of a carved wooden sculpture from Geeveston. This one is made of celery-top pine but I’ll tell you more about that later.

It sounds rather nice. I think the ferry trip at night might be fun.

It left at 7.30pm so we had dinner on board then played euchre on one of the coffee tables till about 9.30pm then went to bed. We were woken at 5.45am by a loudspeaker. I think it might be a long trip during daylight hours but at least we slept through the bulk of it.

I only got photos of three but that's probably enough. We'll be seeing more today I think in the Dandenong Ranges near Melbourne.

Gullivers Travels will soon be replaced by your adventures. If you have not already you better start writing. I suggest the title 'The caravan' How about that? (lol)

@JudyEv How about "Australia Exposed" ? And if you use this title and publish your book you must share your profits with me and also in the preface mention my name

We've had this discussion before.
Who on earth is going to read something called 'the caravan'? Come on now, think outside the square. I need something a bit racier, something to catch people's interest. I'm sure you can do it.
What about 'Saved by the SES and other adventures'.

@JudyEv I like it warm but the heat and humidity here just now are really stifling

@arthurchappell We never thought of England and Ireland as having hot weather but the humidity seems to add at least several degrees to the actual figure. And we nearly cooked in France.

People are so talented. I can't even begin to think how you'd know what to carve away and what to leave.

Very lovely sculptures.. How far is Tasmania from you? I am guessing maybe 3,000 miles.

You're guessing about right. I just looked. Home is about 3,000 from Melbourne and about 4,000 from Tasmania

Hi Judy. Awesome! Glad to know that your tire problem got solved too. Can you actually sit in the middle of those two people in the sculpture?

It could be a long boring trip during the day as it takes almost 12 hours.

Interesting carving and I am glad you made it to Melbourne without further incidents and even a calm crossing of Bass Strait.

Bass Strait is known for being temperamental. A few years ago - I think - a ferry had to return to Melbourne after facing a swell of 20 metres. Windows were smashed and cabins flooded. We were lucky and grateful for our lovely calm crossing.
