Spoiler alerts. 1988 - Marvel This is the main serious comic accompanied by the Spiderham spoof I reviewed yesterday. The main feature is a much darker edged beast. On a routine patrol in New York, Spiderman rescues a man who he ees casually thrown from a high scryscraper window. Spiderman goes into the room to discover a group of crooks being held at gunpoint by the vigilante anti-hero, The Punisher. It is The Punisher who threw the man out the window to get the other henchmen talking, as he is in pursuit of a high profile mob leader. Spiderman liberates the men from the room, and also sets up his cameras to take photos of himself as Spiderman in action to sell to the newspapers in his huan guise as Peter Parker. That is when the Punisher works out something no other villain or protagonist ever worked out despite how obvious it is. No one was in the room by the name of Peter Parker, therefore Parker is Spiderman. The story, or at least this comic isue part of it, ends with the Punisher breaking into Parker's house to tell him what he knows regarding his identity. This works really well despite having no supervillains involved. Spiderman is tangling with a man with lots of guns and an uncompromizing attitude. I hope I come across the next issue some time to ee how this is resolved. Arthur Chappell
