I'm Noticing A Trend

It's become typical over the last 10 years or so that once a certain novel or series of novels becomes a hit, other authors jump on that bandwagon and follow suit. For example, Harry Potter was followed by The Twilight series and The Hunger Games series.
Then, Fifty Shades of Gray was followed by a bunch of novels by other authors with the same kind of theme.
Today I was looking at some books on Goodreads and am seeing similarities to Thirteen Reasons Why. Actually, the book I am currently reading, "The Last Time I Lied", could also fall under that category.
I guess, imitation is the best form of flattery. But let's see some originality.
Has anyone else noticed this trend? Is there a genre/category I didn't mention?

I guess I didn't notice or I was not paying attention? I am not a big reader but I have read some novels. I did The Hunger Games Trilogy and some of the HP. I did not like 50 Shades. Not for me.
I like adventures and whimsical. One novel that I cannot forget is The Elephant Run by Roland Smith. I loved that novel. Roland Smith is a very good writer. His novel can take you to where it was set. I was drawn to his novels.

@anamika161088 For sure. Look at all the remakes of fairy tales. That doesn't seem to ever end.

Even the series that are not so hotly popular do get a following and also some imitators.

Do you mean like young adult in general? Harry Potter and The Hunger Games seem so different. However, I never read them or saw them so you would know better than I. On the other hand, it seemed like a lot of vampires showed up in entertainment after Twilight came out, so I see that.
I did though notice the Fifty Shades of Grey knockoffs. I haven't ever seen any, but I read a lot of magazines, and they talked about that trend as well as gave reviews. I'm not into those type of books, but they seem to make a lot of money.

I've noticed it in the "cosy mysteries" genre... lots of librarians or bookstore owners, single women who inherit a big house or store, crafting thrown in there in a lot of them... sometimes it's difficult to keep them straight.

@BarBaraPrz Yes, my friend has written a series of cozy mysteries. One is called The Bookstore Lady, one the Bakery Lady, The Mystery Lady, etc. They all take place in the same small town. I think readers like what they are familiar with, hence the series of books by Debbie Macomber and other authors where the stories take place in the same small fictional town. Perhaps readers like the familiarity so they can relate to the stories, maybe even feel a part of them.

I don't think Twilight and Hunger Games were inspired by Harry Potter. if anything it was Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

@JohnRoberts I think perhaps it was more the genre. These series are YA (Young Adult) book series that are also read and loved by adults.
