Day 20
Mark 8:22
Mark 8:22 And he came to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.
23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
Do you have patience when it comes to physical limitations? Having limited abilities to do anything can be frustrating, annoying, and cause people to do whatever it takes to get over the handicap.
People brought a blind man to Jesus to heal him, and Jesus did so, but it wasn’t automatic like most of his other healings had been, when all it took was a simple touch and a person was healed. The blind man they brought to Jesus took two steps before his sight was restored.
As Christians, you know healing is not always a guarantee. People go through years waiting for God to heal them, and sometimes it takes death for complete healing to take place. Why is that so? Is it because God wants to see you wallow in pain and misery your entire life? No!
Paul was given a thorn in the flesh, and asked Jesus to heal him, but got a ‘no’ answer.
2 Corinthians 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. (KJV)
It is when we are weak that we gain strength. Physical limitations show you what you’re made of. Will you wallow in self-pity, or rise above the problem, and give it over to God?
Joni Erickson Tada was a teenager when she dove into the water and ended up paralyzed. She had been an equestrian, loving the outdoors, and yet in an instant, her life changed. She went through a lot of mind and soul searching, and rose above her circumstances, and is an author and public speaker today. God healed her, not of her physical situation, but healed her emotions, and brought her face to face with who she was.
Perhaps you have physical limitations, and you are battling healing and trying to find out why it’s not working. It’s working, though the healing might not be a physical one, but one where you realize your potential isn’t in the physical use of your body, but in other areas where you can encourage and lift someone up with strength only God can give you.
God doesn’t want you wallowing in self-pity, but he wants you to trust him to bring you through your situation and see the benefits he can give you right where you are.
The blind man received his sight, not in a single step, but in two. Jesus asked him what he saw, and when he told him, Jesus caused him to see clearly.
What do you see? Let Jesus give you perfect sight in your situation, so you can help others.
Let’s pray: Father, my sight isn’t perfect. I tend to look at my frailties and physical limitations and moan about it, when I should be trusting you to take care of me. Help me rise above the physical problems in my life and rely on you to take care of me. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
