Need to Have a Thyroid Test

I have been reading about abnormal thyroid functions because I suspect that it triggers my blood pressure going up especially at night. It came to my mind because my blood pressure shoots up at night even though I had already taken my maintenance medicine. It feels uncomfortable, and am nervous too because a sister just recently had a mild stroke due to high blood pressure. It will entail so much time going to the hospital and taking the tests, but I think I need it. Do you also have some health problems?

Yes, I am on the borderline, my thyroid has worked overtime too long and it's finally wearing out. Also, I have diabetes and celiac disease(can't consume gluten). When my BP shot through the ceiling it was at night. At the ER my BP was 230/120, it's a miracle I didn't have a stroke!

@acelawrites When I was on Lisinopril, it didn't work for me. She changed my medication, now it's working great!

I don't know if it is related to other issues or not; but I think I have to consult the doctor later. So you are also careful about your sugar intake?

have you let yourself be seen by an internist? they should be the one to tell you what laboratory procedures you should undergo. do you have exophthalmos? or you palpitate?

@acelawrites palpitation is one manifestation of a person with thyroid problems, but i am glad if you do not have this symptom. good luck and hope it is not a thyroid problem at all.

I will first consult the internist if I can have the test or what test to take. No, I don't have heart palpitation. I hope the high BP is not connected to thyroid problem.

Thankfully a blood test can detect thyroid functions. Is your heart rate high, too?

Oh thanks, i thought it would be a painful test. Now I can bravely go to the doctor for that test. No, I think I have low hear beat (based on my digital BP monitor).

I have recently learned, because of personnal experience now, that the hypo-thyroid bring your temperature down pretty low. 95.6 if severe. So if you have high blood pressure it might be something else. Do you have the hyper-thyroid?

Maybe I should have myself checked. So far I only have the uric acid problem as of the moment. I hope yours is not that serious. Take care.

Having high uric acid is easier to cure; just do not eat foods high on it. Thanks.

I do not have health problems, I consider myself pretty lucky. I hope your high blood pressure is not tied up to a problem of your thyroid.

So sorry you are experiencing this, I hope it can be successfully treated. I'm lucky in that I don't have many health problems. I just have arthritis in my hip. I'll have to get the hip replaced some time.

You are lucky to be healthy; only that arthritis which is common in older people. I do experienced it last year, but I am thankful it passed away; but now I think my thyroid is acting up.

Sinus problem is usually associated with allergies, so the doctors say. Have it treated too. Thanks for the advice.
