Afraid Of The Dark

There are alot of people who are afraid of the dark while some find comfort in the darkness.
For me, I love the darkness and all the sounds that come with it. I love being able to sit still and just listen to the wind and the crickets. And yes, there have been a few times where I have been scared but not of the dark. Of the things lurking in the dark.
This past month, there have been several bear sightings in the towns bordering where I live which has caused the coyotes to become more active. My guess is the bears were eating what the coyotes usually did and they had to look for more food.
I was out after dark up at the school just relaxing with KK and Ed. They were swinging at one of the playgrounds and I was sitting in the picnic area just listening to all the sounds. The school is near a few farms and the cows started going crazy. Not entirely abnormal for them to be running around and making noise but when we heard them mooing in distress, we knew something was up.
And then we heard the growling. The coyotes had given up on the cows and went in search of another target. Unfortunately for us, they came to the nature trail by the school and since there were no animals in there, they caught our scent.
When we saw them come onto the school property, we got on our bikes and headed to a new spot, hoping that they would get bored and leave. When they continued to follow us, we decided it was time to call it a night and head home.
I had KK and Ed go ahead of me because I had a knife on me at the time. (Fun Fact: Whenever I go on a walk or bike ride at night, I always have my knife.)
I had my knife in my pocket, ready to have to protect the two kids if need be. The coyote followed us home but stayed in the field by my house. We only saw one coyote for sure that night but I am sure there were more. I am surprised that they didn’t try to attack but then again, coyote attacks on humans are rare.
That was one of the few times I was afraid of the dark.

Wow, that does sound scary. I am not afraid of the dark and actually prefer it. I am visually impaired and can see some, but not well, so I do everything equally as well in the dark as in the light, so to me it really doesn't matter.
I have a coyote story too actually. As I was awaiting my visa to move to England, my mom and my son and I were living in a travel trailer in Bandera Texas. My mom's friend had brought her daughter to play and I was with them in the dog run. We were pretending there were vampires and zombies and werewolves and they had to chase them away or kill them. I started howling like a werewolf, but was a bit dismayed when I heard a howl back. At first I thought it was one of the local dogs, but then I heard it again, this time more than one, and sounded like a coyote howl. It also sounded closer. Generally a single coyote isn't a threat to people, but a pack can be. They were still quite far in the distance and it was broad daylight, but I wasn't taking any chances with a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old. We left the dog run and went inside immediately.

I love the dark. Sometimes when staring out into the dark, I'll get ideas for new stories. There have been a few times where I have heard strange things. Some made me leave but others made me explore.
The other night, we heard a strange sound, almost like a bird in distress and went to check it out but could not find anything.

@mommyzhuuraan Yeah, I haven't worked on any of my stories in almost a week. I really need to pick one and then just try to focus on that one to finish it.
