Day 30
Mark 10:46
Mark 10:46 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.
47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calls thee.
50 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
Have you believed something so much that you left your old way behind to pursue a new life and a new you?
Bartimaeus was blind. That meant he sat at the city gate and begged for his existence from anyone who came through the gate. One day he heard Jesus of Nazareth was going through the gate, and decided in that moment to change his life, and made himself known to Jesus. People tried telling him to be quiet, but he called out louder, and Jesus stood still and called him to come to him. Bartimaeus left his coat and went to him, and received his sight, never going back to his old life again.
Jesus did two things. One, he stood still. He recognized a need. Two, he asked Bartimaeus what he wanted him to do for him. Jesus wanted him to tell him what he wanted.
As Christians, we have the tendency to believe God knows what we want and will just give it to us. Yes, God knows what we want. However, he wants us to ask him for what we want. He wants to you to know what you want him to do for you. He wants you to articulate it, out loud.
Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou know not.
Psalm 50:15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. (KJV)
Matthew 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knows what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
Prayer is the most important tool you have as Christians. God wants you to pray, believing for your greatest desire, and he will give it to you. However, you must believe; you must have faith.
Bartimaeus had faith, and it was because of his faith, and the request he made, that Jesus healed him. He showed his faith by leaving his coat behind. He wasn’t going back to that lifestyle ever again. He was taking up a new lifestyle – following Jesus.
What do you want bad enough that you will petition God for it, never giving up until you have it? What will you do to achieve your goal? Bartimaeus gave up his old way of life, begging from everyone so he could live, because he couldn’t do anything else as a blind person. He left his coat behind – his beggars coat, and sought out the one person who could change his life forever. Are you ready to throw away your old lifestyle to embrace a new one, one that has more potential?
Believe it! Achieve it!
Jesus told Bartimaeus his faith made him whole. What do you have faith in? What is it you want Jesus to do for you?
Let’s pray: Father, you know my needs before I ask. However, you want me to ask. Give me faith to believe you will meet my needs and desires. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

There are some church members in a church close by who hold special prayer sessions asking for healing, chasing the devil away etc. These sessions are very noisy - I know because they came to my neighbor's yard praying and shouting. Is that the way it should be?

Some people think they need to shout for God to heal them. They think the noisier they are the faster the healing. That's not the way it should be, no. However, with the crowd around Jesus, I'm sure Bartimaeus wanted to be heard above the noise of the crowd. Have a blessed day.
