Did you do a good deed today??

AS much an egotist/narcissist I may be (well compared to Trump I am an amateur!) I very seldom talk about something I have been doing for years--at least 1 good deed a day. It can range from saying hello to someone I don't know, taking a homeless person in for a meal, sending a couple an happy anniversary card or another person a birthday card, I might buy a friend a lunch or dinner for favors they have done me or send a gift for no reason except I am thinking of them or share something I have cooked or offer to get them something they need when I go to a store. I'll compliment someone on how they look or what they are wearing or the cute pet they have with them. The list can go on as there are hundreds of things as you go about your day that will make someone's day better just by doing a good deed which can range from a smile, a thank you to donating money to a personal cause where a person needs help for whatever reason. Today I watched a man working for about 2 hours just outside my window. He picked up every branch, leaf, twig, bird poop, bottle caps, etc., on top of the metal roof over our mailboxes. It was a hot, humid Fort Lauderdale summer day and I didn't see him stop for a minute. Every time I looked out my window he was climbing a ladder, using a brush or his hands, fingers, removing debris, constantly taking the stuff to the dumpster. I did nothing more than bring him a can of sparkling water. His smile and thank you will be with me for a few days! How often do you do a good deed?

I always knew you were a really nice man Martin. I do a good deed when the occasion arises, but don't actively seek them out. Perhaps I should follow your example. But I make sure I don't do a bad deed.

I do it whenever an opportunity presents itself. Now I'll try to do a good deed more often.

It is so simple to good deeds every day--a smile, a hello, a thank you, a compliment, etc. :O)

I had been probably doing it unconsciously but I want to follow what you do starting today. Doing it conciously and counting would most probably trigger me to want to do more, I hope

Just do it--recognize people--don't dismiss people as just doing their job--give someone a genuine smile, etc.

I have no one at present to do good deeds for. If I am at home I am alone if I go out then I just do what I have to do and come back home. If however, I would see someone who needed help I would stop to help them. Your story about the guy on the hot roof made me smile. You're a great guy.

No neighbors who could use a hello? When you go out a compliment to whoever you deal with? There are a million ways of doing good deeds!

As a foster father to children it is part of my job but with others I keep myself ready to do a good deed as an occasion presents.

There are good deeds we see as responsibilities and good deeds we do to make someone we don't know feel better! Doing it easily becomes second nature and you find yourself feeling better. I deal with kids who are HIV+ and/or have AIDS--they know what I do because it is expected and they know what is done because I care about them as an individual. Great for being a foster father--that' very special!
