Guess I am Wrong

Responding to @cintol in a discussion about donating blood (whole blood) for money, I told her that I did not know of any place that gave money for whole blood, or platelets, etc. although I do know of selling plasma.
I also told her that I did not think you could do whole blood twice a week.
Evidently, I am wrong. There are a couple of companies in the US who will buy blood, and there was even a website stating that you can make about five thousand dollars a year doing so. However, here are the guidelines:
Rules For Donating Blood:
Blood donors must be above the age of 18
Must have a permanent address and valid ID
Tattoos or body piercings must be done at least 12 months ago
Pre-screen physical examination and comprehensive medical testing must be completed
Health history questionnaire must be completed to rule out individuals who engage in high-risk behavior or live an unhealthy lifestyle
Must test negative for transmissible diseases such as hepatitis and HIV
Like I said, I know when my blood and platelets have been taken, at the central collection point they do run tests on it.

Thanks Cindy for a chance to do some more research and contribute a post on the topic myself.

Those rules seem fair.
I don't know anywhere around here to do that though.
Although, they do have the blood drive trucks often, but that's to get like a movie ticket if you donate, not money.

Whole blood donations often earn you shirts, or hats or coffee mugs and a free meal.

You are right. The American Red Cross asks about vacations, and military duty due to West Nile and Jakob-Creutzfeldt's disease (mad cow) and some other ailments.

I have considered doing it in the past. No convenient location here that I know of. I don't know if you can sell it here or not.

I have at least two online friends who sell plasma. One states that is how she buys her groceries if she does not get enough shifts. The other is a stay at home mom who likes to help out. It is an hour drive to donate (sell) plasma for me, and I may do it. The health difficulty I had involved overwork among other things.

My niece just took a job at a plasma place. I will see her at Thanksgiving and ask what she knows. I love learning new things. I hope a few people look at your discussion, too.

Ohh , $5000 a year is a big amount. But if you are a blood donor, you need to eat foods that are rich in iron , food that increases the hemoglobin.

I always gave a lot of platelets in the past. I also have given whole blood and I have given concentrated double red blood cells. I only had an iron problem one time.

Depending on what kinds of medicines you take for your migraines you might not be able to. I want to start up again.

@GardenGerty I thought some of my medications might make me ineligible.

I did not want to copycat on her idea, but it was a chance to look into more. I am still planning on getting in to plasma.

Right, you had to be in good health. I gave whole blood some and what they called double reds. I really found my niche with platelets for a long time, until I got sick and exhausted. They had me hold off a year, and then I moved too far away.

I think in Australia they stop accepting blood after a certain age. Vince gave blood for a long time but then they cut out the mobile units and you had to go to central point if you wanted to donate. I think that put a lot of people off.

I have not seen any upper limits on donations yet. I have not asked that question. If you are in good health and not on a lot of medication it should not make any difference. I only take vitamins and one diabetes pill.

If you take medication for high blood pressure they will not accept your blood. I don`t know why but my step mother was turned away.
