Three popular things that I never got the appeal of.

Earlier I was talking to another user here and we were talking about popular books/tv series that we had never gotten into and that got me thinking about other popular stuff that although it seemed/seems like everybody else was in love with I just never got the appeal or never got into. This thinking of course made me want to write a post so here goes, three things that other people love, that I never got into- or liked. Game of Thrones- I think I have watched a total of fifteen minutes of this series since it came out. I remember watching snatches of the first episode, but I don't remember anything much. I kind of know the story just from talking to other people and from recognizing some actors/actresses that I like from the show. However, I never got the big draw to GOT. I know that its a big deal to a lot of people, but for me it just never was appealing. Bob Dylan- I'm sure this one is probably going to upset some people. A lot of people adore Bob Dylan and his music. I'm not knocking you if you like his music, but I cannot stand his voice. I will listen to a couple of his songs, but most of it is so painful to listen to that I just cant. Yeah, I know he's gotten all kinds of awards and recognition and he's a very talented musician. But I cannot stand his voice, and therefore have never really seen the appeal of him, or been a fan. John Grisham- There's no denying that he is a bestselling author. He has many many books, and many of those books have been made into movies. However, for me his books fall short of being something I want to read. I've read two. They just leave something to be wanted. His books are too similar to me, too formulaic if you will. So there you have it, three things that the vast majority of people like, that I just don't like, don't see the big hubbub of or they just don't appeal to me. Do you agree with any of these things? What are things, fads, or products that have happened during your lifetime that everyone else seemed to be obsessed with, that you just didn't like?

I've never seen GoT ever. Bob Dylan's voice makes me want to poke my eardrums out. I read some of John Grisham's early novels but then I gave up on him as I quickly grew bored of them. I did like The Pelican Brief though--both the book and movie.

@thislittlepennyearns I feel the same way about Sparks. I gave up on James Patterson for the same reason.

That's one of the ones that I read. It was okay. In general I'm not a fan of authors like Graham who just copy paste their books. Even Nicholas Sparks bugs me after awhile. I can read him but not often.

@NJChicaa I read I think a chapter of one of Patterson's books and gave up. And Stephen King. I don't like Stephen King.

I have never seen Game of Thrones. I don't get HBO but could get the DVDs at the library. I just never have been motivated or interested in checking it out. I cannot abide Bob Dylan. Vastly overrated. I read Grisham and he is hit and miss. My list would be too long.

I said I didn't like Dylan to someone who listens to almost nothing but him and they said I should like him because he got the literature Nobel Peace prize or something, and my response was that that didn't make him a good singer.

@thislittlepennyearns A Nobel Prize is a meaningless joke.

I'm a big fan of Game of Thrones and John Grisham (even though he's not my favorite author). Bob Dylan never appealed to me I'll have to come back with my list of things I don't get excited about. Now you got me thinking but off the top of my head I'd say football

@thislittlepennyearns I have Netflix here in Israel so do not get Games of Thrones so not sure if I would like it or not. Yes, a lot of people do like that show. Bob Dylan, I like him and he is from Minnesota where I was born and he is also Jewish. John Grisham, I like his books.

We are similar. I have heard my sisters talk a lot about the game of thrones but have never taken my time to watch it. Another one is the originals, all my friends have watched it and I haven't.

Oh! GOT! Everyone was so into Game of Thrones before, but like you i was not so excited about it - not so much and I think i watched season 1 to 3 and then stopped I was curious and still am now but not curious enough for me to go back find copies to start watching it again. =) John Grisham - is okay for me, I find his books interesting but yes it can be repetitive at times especially that the plot are almost always similar. I am not very aware of who bob Dylan is, sorry. hehe For me, i cannot think of 3 things or fads that everyone liked and i dont... hmmm AH!!! yeah there is one i could think of. there was a time when everyone liked this ice cream brand called Magnun - they all loved it and it was selling like hotcakes and everyone was holdig one before - i tasted it but i never liked it and have not bought another one ever since and unlike most people who says it is delicious, it is just an ordinary ice cream to me and it is too expensive for its kind.

I can name two shows that I could not stand, All in the Family and Mash. I just did not like the woman's whinny voice on All in the Family and just never could get into Mash.

The game of thrones is something that I have heard of but will not be part of my life. From Dylan, I love blowing in the wind, but sung by Joan Baez I liked the first 2 books from John Grisham. The rest sounded like a copy-paste.

I remember the craze over the movie Titanic. When I finally did watch it I was bored out of my mind.

I watched the directors commentary of it and that was much better than the actual movie becauae it showed how they made the movie..
