I got a lot of writing done today, and set up more contacts for my book launch. I was disappointed by the late night cloud cover as it prevented me getting to watch a spectacular meteorite shower. It was welfare day so I went to see my advisor. They moved him to the upstairs section, so I had to chase round a lot to find him. He was impressed by my job searching and arranged for me to chat to a colleague who is trying to recruit temps for Christmas work at a well known department store but as I am expecting to be doing similar temporary work with the post office then she suggested I give priority to that. I don't need to sign on again until early September. I went round the city getting photos of our coat of arms for my talk on heraldry on Friday. Youtube - a rare song about Heraldry - Calling All Heraldic Beasts by Jaldaboath Arthur Chappell

I was also disappointed by the cloudy sky. Most years I miss the meteorite shower and this year it seems it was spectacular.

@LadyDuck I always think the clouds a perfect weather for UFO's - there could be dozens up there and we won't see them because of the weather

@arthurchappell It seems that in our area UFO are pretty active. I have to say that several times I have noticed weird lights in the sky that quickly disappeared. Surely they prefer cloudy days.

@LadyDuck with so many cell phones about they would soon be proven to be around on clear days

A productive day always feels good. I did not have one. Very cloudy/smokey here so no meteor sightings.

@paigea always happens here when we get an eclipse or some rare space display - the weather blocks it out

@Freelanzer it could be a year after publication before I see any earnings from the book.

Stick with the post office if you can - you know what to expect.

Wow that's a nice change - not having to turn up again till early September. Your book launch won't be for ages yet will it?

What was the meteorite shower about?

A lot of meteorites hit the Earth atmosphere every year at this time, creating a light display as they burn in the atmosphere - virtually every year the weather is too bad for watching it wherever I am
