I've been comparing prices (Ebay VERSUS Amazon)

United States

So, yeah.. I've been comparing prices of things and have come to a decision. I am going to cancel my prime subscription, keep myself subscribed to the KU program, and make sure I keep subscribed to / subscribe to prime video. But as for the membership for free two day shipping? That part I am getting rid of. It's not as worth it to me. Ebay seems to have better prices, and offers free shipping. Some of the things I've gotten have come within only a few days as well.

I love Amazon Prime and now I have justed added Acorn to my Prime membership. I do a lot of shopping on Amazon and I know that they stand behind what they sell and returns are never an issue.

I have had Acorn in the past. I now have britbox. Go to amazon and type in.. Oh I don't know, type in "Immersion Blender", then go to ebay and do the same thing. Look at the prices. Sure, some of what ebay has isn't name brand, but you can tell that amazon does mark up the prices just a bit. I've had amazon prime for awhile, but I just don't need the 2 day shipping perk anymore. I don't need the subscribe and save. I'll keep the prime video (because I love it!) and Kindle Unlimited (because I looooove it!) but the other? has go to go.

@thislittlepennyearns I got a notification that the gift I ordered from amazon will be delivered tomorrow. It was supposed to be the 22nd. As soon as I know the $1.00 digital credit has come in, I am going to cancel prime and make sure I retain Prime Video. I'm wondering if they'll charge me for prime video as soon as I cancel prime. I'm sure they won't just let the month roll over. Anyway, I've learned. You've made me an Ebayer now.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Amazon marks a lot of things up because people think they are getting s better deal by going to Amazon . Which isn't always the case. Instant pots are usually 20-40 cheaper at Walmart than they are on Amazon

I have had some good experience with Amazon and Prime and for now, the new things I have ordered I have from Amazon. Everything came quick and at a discount. Once I get the essentials I need to start my new life I will also opt out of Prime because I will not be shopping all the time. Gotta save every buck but there are many necessities right now. I will check out Ebay

Just price compare between the two. I mean, not everything is going to be cheaper on ebay, but you will see where some of the prices amazon has are a little higher, or the exact same as ebay.

I did not know there were so many things with free shipping until recently.

I am glad with Amazon, we have 5 days shipping and it is free for order of $30 or above. I do not subscribe to Prime because anyway it will never happen that I get the packages in two days, they come from Germany, France or Italy and they have to pass through the Custom.

I mean, don't get me wrong, amazon is an okay company, but there prime is a rip off. Even lately, I've had "prime two day shipping' things come in three or four instead. Not that that's all together a bad thing, but when they promise something... One thing I do like about amazon, and this doesn't include or need prime, is that you can shop from their different sites (Canada, UK, Italy) and choose "Worldwide shipping eligible" and see what you can get from that amazon. I've done this to price compare foods I wanted to try.

@LadyDuck I wish it was easier to order things from other countries, and less expensive as well. However, if it was that way then the businesses that benefit from it wouldn't be in business, or atleast, they wouldn't be too pleased. I have talked to someone in the past about paypal'ing money to them and getting things from the UK. Goods that I know they have but that I can't buy online.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Exactly, we do not have Amazon in Switzerland but I can buy from Italy, France and Germany and I do not pay the shipping costs. I ordered a few things from the US, but the shipping is too expensive and then I have to pay the custom and this is a real mess.

That's the same decision I came to. I didn't feel like it was worth the price for me. I'm not subscribed to anything on Amazon right now. But even though I'm not I can still watch my purchased stuff from prime video. eBay does have good prices on a lot of stuff and book depository has better prices on books a lot of the time.

I am going to wait until the 22nd since I did that "no rush shipping" for $1.00 credit on digital. I don't want them to have an excuse not to give it to me. Then I'm going to cancel my membership and make sure I stay with amazon video. As for book depository, I'll check it out, but right now I am getting books for absolutely nothing via trade credit.

@thislittlepennyearns I'll keep Book Depository in mind, of course. I was actually looking at ebay and thinking about buying "The President Is Missing" since I want to read it. Pretty decent prices, most under $10.00.

@ScribbledAdNauseum That's a smart idea. I should see if the mobile app works on my Kindle and watch the shows I bought last head. I still haven't watched all of the Christmas special of doctor who. Oops. Lol I get that. I have used Book Depository for books that I can't find anywhere else. For some reason London seems to have a lot of books that US sellers don't. Plus free shipping always. So that's nice

Some products are cheaper on eBay, though sometimes you may find a sweet deal on Amazon as well. You need to monitor the product you need on both marketplaces if you want the best deal ever.

From what I've seen, Ebay has been better than amazon every time. I'm going to get rid of prime. I'll still purchase from amazon, but I'll always check prices first.

I predominantly use Amazon. However there were some things that I could get only on eBay. Now eBay India has closed down, do I can't get those things.

I'm sorry to hear Ebay India has closed down. Another mylotter here told me to compare the prices on amazon to other places and I got to see how it was a little marked up in comparison. So amazon just doesn't suit me anymore.

that is good to hear. It is good to compare and check prices and which will be suitable for you the most.

I agree. I've known people who will only buy the most expensive brand, because they think it's "premium". The truth is, most of the things are made in the same factory and stamped with different labels. Wouldn't you agree?
