Lost and Confused

I went walking this morning at the park. This particular trail, unlike the other trails, circles in and out, backtracking and crossing itself, and to make a long story short, after walking awhile, I got completely confused about how to get back to where I started from. I kept winding up at the same place,
I would start again and think I was walking in the opposite direction, and still find myself at same spot. Needless to say I finally found my way out, but I had walked more than I had anticipated. Which was a good thing. I usually walk about an hour and this time it was about an hour and a half.
It was a good walk. After coming home, I was a little tired so I took my book and went out to lay in the swing to read a book by Sue Grafton, one of my favorite authors, and awoke to find myself being spattered with rain which ran me into the apartment. After drying myself off I turned on the computer and began mylotting That was part of my day, how was yours?

We have a huge botanical gardens outside of our city that is over 65 acres in size, and they have this one part that is a huge bamboo forest. The trails that run through the bamboo forest look more like tunnels because the bamboo is so thick. It is very easy to get lost inside the bamboo forest because so many trails criss-cross each other, and since the bamboo forest is so tall and thick, very little sunlight gets down to the ground, making it especially hard to see well. But it is so fun to play hide and seek in the bamboo forest!

@RubyHawk I love when I go walking a trail and have peace and solitude and nobody else around. Sometimes it's hard to find relaxation and serenity in nature when there are dozens or more other people around!

@moffittjc I like lonely trails where you hardly ever meet anyone. I did have trouble with that once. I noticed that on the loneliest part of the trail a man was standing at the same place like he was hiding behind a tree. I didn't pay attention a few times then it struck me he might be intending to knock me over the head and I didn't go back there. It probably wasn't anything but it got my hackles up.

It might have been fun for me if I were playing hide and seek and not by myself. This trail has lots of trees large and small and I wanted a little adventure so I got what I was looking for. I suppose adventure is why people walk the trail. but today I didn't see a soul out there.

If you have sun always use that as a guide, if you get lost again. However, at noon its hard to determine which was is which.

Looks a bit frightening to be lost in a forest and kind of mysterious that you keep on ending on the same spot after trying different way out. I remember when we were kids our grandparents would usually tell stories that there are spirits in the forest that would try to play tricks on you and would let you get lost on forest and no matter how you try you would end on the same spot in the forest. They say that the only solution to that is to wear your shirt inside out. LOL
I am glad you have made your way out eventually. I can imagine the stress it cause you to be in that situation.

At least you weren't lost for hours. Do you not have a phone you take on your walks that could help you go in the right direction. It's the answer is no you may want to buy a compass, and it might not hurt to take pieces of ribbon to attach to trees as you go and then pull them offer when you leave the same way.

@RubyHawk well if you can't be lost for a long time then it might not be so worrisome. But some satellite images show where stuff is whether well known or not.

I had my cell phone but I don't know if it has a compass. I'd never thought about it and I didn't know if I should go north or south. The trail was so winding and crossing over itself. I've never seen a trail like it. I haven't been back since then. I thought I would go back and see if I could do better but I haven't yet. That's a good idea to attach ribbons or strings to the trees. I'll remember that.

@MarshaMusselman This isn't a huge well known park. I like it because it has a long trail of two miles. the twisted trail is hidden away on the other side of the park and it's isn't miles long but it's kind of hidden and twists and turns in a circle. you have to work to find a way out but you will eventually see where you are.

That's a sweet, inviting photo. I'd love to get lost in such a place. I'm not doing much today cause I'm still trying to feel my idea of normal. I did find a cache of eggs in the freezer so now I can make a little Sunday cake. Smiling me.

it is nice you were able to get back on track, but if ever you did not find the right path, how will you let your family know?i believe through mobile phone, right?

I can see that you really own your time and enjoying it so much.
Walking is a good exercise. It's recommended for those who are aging already. So, it has to be for one hour, to be considered a good exercise?

I am glad you didn't panic when you keep returning to the same place, it is easy to get turned around sometimes. We had a quiet day today, didn't go out at all.
