Gallbladder surgery this morning....

Hey everyone!
I know I am still quite far behind answering MyLotters back with some of my discussions. Will try get up to date with you all as soon as I can. Please don't think I have forgotten you.
Most of you are aware that I will be having gallbladder removal surgery. And that is taking place this morning. It's getting close to 3am here and have to be there at 6:30am. Not sure when the actual surgery is but all I know is....is that I am bloody terrified!
I've never had surgery before so I'm extremely nervous about it. I have this annoying fear that I won't be put to sleep properly or I will wake up way too early even though I know that scenario isn't exactly common.
I'm just chilling on here for a little bit then will continue getting ready. I'm sorry if I don't reply back straight away but I will get back to you when I get back home. ( I'm staying at the hospital over night. Didn't have to. I wanted to because I know that I will get worried every time I feel pain or sick so would rather be around nurses / doctors. )
Does anyone have any surgery stories to share and possibly even assure me that I will be knocked out 100%? *chews on my fingers anxiously*

@NJChicaa I had a feeling you'd be here. And I am very grateful for you being here and for the times you have talked me through this. Thank you so much again for all the times you've been to my posts as well as this one!
I will do a post when I come back home to let everyone know how it went. I'm a tad excited as it's a new experience. Actually 3 things I feel right now is, little bit excitement, nervous and hungry.

@NJChicaa I am back home.
Came home on Saturday. All is good. Haven't been in any pain except this morning my belly button area was a bit sore but nothing I can't handle. And bit sick every now and then but again, nothing I can't handle.

Yes. When they replaced my ACL, the gave me a "Valium cocktail" before I went in. By the time the guy (who looked like Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull) was putting a needle in my arm to knock me out, I didn't care. When I awoke, my girlfriend was there, ready to drive me home. She said I talked up a storm. I thought I was just describing what happened.

@TheHorse Oh to be a fly on the wall!
I hope I have a similar experience. Hoping whatever they do can calm me down and just fall asleep peacefully.
Thank you for sharing!

Me too. Thanks for the support throughout all this. I'm glad it's over. I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow though to ask a few things. Been having issues breathing. Nothing too major I don't think. Kinda thinking it's anxiety.

@jaboUK Hey! Yes all is done and all is well. Back home now. A few small things going on but they are common and are nothing too bad.

Damn! I missed this post.
You know we already talked about it and discussed what you were feeling and what I was feeling before surgery.
When it was over, it felt kinda surreal. Kinda felt a bit silly for worrying over nothing. Well not nothing but still. It went smoothly. smh!
The biggest thing? NO GALLBLADDER ATTACKS for 6-7-8 hours. YAY
Since I am not worried anymore. I am in kinda celebratory mode (except feeling a bit uncomfortable and you know why).
Anywhos, good riddance to that thing!

@Daljinder YAY! That's right! No more attacks ever!
The only thing that is bothering me, in fact even at this very moment is shortness of breath again. But I don't know if it's because the surgery is on my mind. I was standing outside not too long ago for fresh air. Came back in and just sat quietly watching Daz and my breath was coming back. But it did scare me a little. Not struggling as much now but earlier I was worried I was going to faint. I'm only guess it was me in panic mode again.
It kinda feels like I'm in a dream. Like my eyes are weird. Almost like tunnel vision is about to happen. I did wake with a sore belly button this morning as well as feeling a bit sick so I don't know if I'm just a bit worried since I'm not certain what's fine and what isn't in regards to having surgery.
Just about to have shower, make some tea and then MyLot with TV. Hoping to get my mind off it all.

@Daljinder Thank you for that!
My dad and I were talking about it last night cause it was happening again. My dad, just like you said, suggested for me to go get it checked out. It does help when he told me that I'm obviously getting air because I'm not gasping or turning blue or anything like that. And this breathing thing has been an issue over the years. In fact, sometime before I met you ( I think ), in the early stages with Byron my dad took me to the hospital because I was not breathing like I wanted to. The doctor didn't examine me ( which annoys me ) but he put it down to anxiety. I feel like the breathing thing this time is anxiety but because I only just had an operation, it worries me something went wrong, which leads to me getting anxious again which takes me back to not being able to breathe nicely. Like a weird cycle.
I am getting air inside. Just feels like I need to use my chest and throat extra hard to breath in air but don't feel completely satisfied. Like I don't feel air going down into my chest. But some is going in otherwise I would have passed out ages ago.
And then yesterday because I was home alone, I felt light headed and then panicked and then like I was going to pass out. Which I actually know ( I know it can be other things too ) is part of anxiety / panic attack.

@VivaLaDani13 It is one of the side-effects but if it is getting too difficult to breathe then you shouldn't ignore it and report it immediately. You just had a surgery. Call your doctor immediately if it persists.
Sometimes areas of the lung do not open fully when a person breathes in. This is called atelectasis. It is a very common cause of shortness of breath after surgery. Atelectasis can occur for a variety of reasons, including the effects of general anaesthesia or being able to take only small breaths because of pain after chest or abdominal surgery.

Do you really want stories before your surgery. Good luck and will you be going home after it or how long will you be in the hospital?

@Hannihar haha yep! I was eager to hear surgery stories but more than anything was hoping to hear a lot of "You will be fine" and "You will be completely asleep" to help calm me down.
I am back home now. I spent one night there. Was back home on Saturday. I'm still fine reading any stories people have to share. And this time, have nothing to stress about.
And thank you very much.

That is great that it went well. Since you are home I will share something with you that I do not remember but was told. When I was a baby I think it was. I slammed my finger in the car door. They had to take from my skin on my body to put on the finger. It will never be like the others but I can use it. I am glad you are back home now. You are welcome but I really did not do anything.

Surgery can be a little unsettling when you don't know what to expect, but it usually goes off without a hitch.
I had my gallbladder removed it only left me with 4 small incisions in my upper right abdomen.
There is no chance of you waking up in the middle of surgery because the Anethetist is with you throughout the entire procedure and monitors the anesthetic. He won't let you wake up until you are in recovery.
The most interesting surgery I have ever had was the surgery I had on my right Temporal Lobe. (Brain)
For the first part of this surgery, the "mapping out" stage, I was anethetized, but I was still awake. I had to remain awake and aware as the surgeon mapped out the area he was to operate on because he had to ask me questions. This was so he knew that he wasn't delving into areas where there was a great risk to memory loss and other things. Once the mapping out was finished, (about four hours), I was placed completely under while the surgeon removed the part of the brain that was affected.

@Starmaiden Thank you so very much for your answer. I have no doubt that I will still be asking questions to those around me once I'm there but it really does help every single time anyone talks me through it like you have and everyone here.
Puts me more at ease knowing the Anaesthetist will be there with me throughout the whole surgery.
And whoa! ok wow. You are my hero right now lol I mean gallbladder is one thing but the brain?! And awake during! WOW! I'm hoping everything is much better for you now in regards to all that.
Thank you so much for answering, sharing your story and the support!

Hey, good luck with your surgery. God bless you. As for me, I am scared of the thought of going through those knives. I have this fear that I might not be able to wake up after the surgery or I might die in the middle of the procedure. But I guess if that happens, all I need to do is to pray hard and ask God for guidance and protection.

@freelancermariagrace So glad I saw this comment after my surgery lol Thankfully, everything I was scared of didn't happen. All went well. Little hiccup here and there but all is fine.
