Happy Tuesday morning to all from this side of earth; hope everybody who were greatly affected by the glitch yesterday are now relieved since our earnings are back to normal. My sister is feeling unwell again (but then, everyday, she feels unwell so it is not a question anymore!). She complains of redness and itchiness in her joints (ankles, elbow-anterior and posterior, knees- anterior and posterior, and nape). If she remembers they itch, she scratches them. I reasoned out that the joints itch especially when one is sweating much. She accepts my reason, but still scratches the affected areas of her body. I cannot give her more health advice because I am not a doctor. She is going to the doctor after lunch, and hopefully, her condition is only benign and will be treated fast. I think she needs topical steroids but I cannot suggest her that because she will see the doctor later. My sister alternately applied hot and cold compress on the more itchy joints and it provided her temporary relief with the cold pack. When warm compress was applied, she felt the redness became more pronounced and itched more. What are your home remedies for itchy skin?

Only ice packs for itchy skin, never hot, I am not surprised it was more red when she applied hot.

@LadyDuck but this morning, she applied warm bottle again because she said the warm pack controls the itch, again. i don't know what to tell her now.

i did not correct her when she applied the hot pack because she should already know the action of hot and cold in our skin. when she felt better with the cold, she stopped with the hot.

There are over-the-counter and anti pruritus medicines available but it's always safe to try them prescribed. Good thing that she's going to the doctor. It's very uncomfortable. Scratching will cause it to itch more.

there is a doctor who specializes in allergies but our cardiologist first prescribed her with an antihistamine that is not similar with the cetirizine tablets she takes. if the itch continues after 1 week, she might go to that specialist.

@ZedSmart i advised my sister to use the Dr. Kaufman sulfur soap, the lather only, and not rub the soap in her red skin.

@ridingbet At some time I also experience itchiness. I even suspected the medicines that I regularly take but according to the doctor it's not. Blood tests showed no infections. I went to the dermatologist and he said it was just a dry skin in which he had given me the urea lotion. It worked, however it will come back sometimes.

I hope it's not about eczema or psoriasis since that maybe difficult to treat. Although from the symptoms I read from you looks like it to be psoriasis. It is like an allergic reaction to something that shows out when triggered by the allergens. I would certainly be interested to know what the doctor's diagnosis would be.

before, she was diagnosed with psoriasis until the dermatologist said it was not actually, but just atopic dermatitis.

@rsa101 until now, she still buys that lotion from the dermatologist and she says it is so expensive.

Oh my, I hope it is not something serious. Yes, it is best that she consults a doctor, because it can be an allergy.

@ridingbet Oh, my it's costly. It's as costly as my knee maintenance for glucosamine sulfate- Flexa - 60 pesos per sachet.

When itchy, it is best to have a cold compress. Other than that, I have one petroleum jelly inside the ref so when there itchy skin with my kids, I get this and it soothes the itch because it is cold. Other than this, we take anti histamines.

@ridingbet True. I do that to my kids when skin asthma is in season. Also, I put lotion when the skin is too dry

a cold compress creates vasoconstriction, and yes, i think a cold pack is better to be applied.

Ice and cucumber.... I had allergy last year... I even went to the doctor, had injection, applied creams and all that, but I wasn't relieved... I applied cucumber and put ice on the area and after a few days, the itching is gone...

@ridingbet cannot be... borrow one from two hihi jk.... I think I got the itching from the plants/weeds outside our fence near my garden. But it could also be the dried squid that I ate... I am still unsure about the real cause... The dermatologist was not present when I went to the hospital...

Did you hear anything about her trip to the doctor? You are right, scratching her skin could potentially irritate it even more to the point of bleeding and getting the wound infected. Hopefully they figure out what's going on and get her the help that she needs.

when you made this comment, my sister was out, but she was back at dusk yesterday. no, she does not scratch excessively because she knows she will bleed (she takes clopidogrel everyday).
