Diary 24th To 28th August 2018

Photo taken by me - The Red Door pub sign, Liverpool
Preston, England
August 28, 2018 3:33pm CST
Friday 24th August 2018 For many this was the start of a long bank holiday weekend, the last British national holiday before Christmas, but being unemployed my day just went normally, with some job searching and shopping. Saturday 25th August 2018 As the weather improved I caught a bus to Liverpool, two hours ride away, and looked round, taking photos of pub signs, statues of the Beatles in the garish over-commercialized district associated with them, and called in a few bars too. It was a lovely exhausting day out and I treated myself to a Chinese meal afterwards. The pub sign in the photo is for a bar called The Red Door, and it is literally a red door complete with a door knocker. Very offbeat. Sunday 26th August 2018 I recovered from my expedition and edited my way through about 230 photos that I’d taken while I was out. As I had used my camera batteries to their full capacity I ordered a spare battery online. Bank Holiday Monday 27th August 2018 The actual main bank holiday, so many shops were closed and buses were on a very limited service but I got out to the quiet city centre to get a few supplies in anyway. Tuesday 28th August 2018 A lot of writing and photo editing today for my various book projects and updating my job search files too. I also got a little laundry done. Arthur Chappell

This is a cute Red Door, a pretty sign. I think we still have one bank Holiday before Christmas, is the All Saint day.

@arthurchappell Finland and France are the two with most holidays, both 5 days more than Italy and Switzerland that have a total of 20, like the UK. We will have All Saint, but the past Monday was not a holiday.

I would love to see Liverpool but now that I have left Europe I do not think I will ever go back again.

I have never been to Liverpool despite having family history there. Interesting what you say about the commercialisation of the Beatles district.

The bars associated with them are quite close together so the corridor area becomes a tourist trap in garish neon with statues and overpriced bars and lousy statues

It's easy to take hundreds of photos nowadays. Vince takes them in something called RAW now and has to process them all when he gets home.

@JudyEv I have used RAW - it does take very high quality images but often too big to use on online forum posts without processing

@arthurchappell Vince always has to process them from RAW but it gives him more options for 'tweaking' I think.
