In Jeopardy on a Tuesday

Today for the Math lesson in addition, my class played Jeopardy. The inclusion teacher who works with me for Math found an excellent version of the game online and we were able to project it on the board. My students sit at 7 round tables, 4 to a table. Each square on the Jeopardy board hid an addition problem of adding a 3-digit number to a 3-digit number. The kids at the tables took turns answering for their table and the first table to get the right answer earned the points.
The students really loved the game and put more effort into addition than I could have imagined. I will definitely be using this app for other subjects in the future.
Do you have a favorite game show? I watch a lot of Family Feud on Game Show Network because of the dearth of decent programming on other channels.

@moffittjc I don't know if he is or if the show is even still being aired. We watch the old episodes of the show on the Game Show Network.

@RasmaSandra For a long time after Richard Dawson left Family Feud I didn't watch the show. I've only started again recently watching old episodes with Steve Harvey on GSN because there is so little that is good to watch on TV these days.

@DWDavis I have seen practically all of the ones with Bob Barker and would not watch any others. Like when Richard Dawson left the Match Game I missed him there.

How cool of you to do that for them! I loathe math, and even I would probably enjoy it a little more if Jeopardy was involved.

@DWDavis You can use this same concept (Jeopardy), but with other subjects as well?

@ScribbledAdNauseum I've used Jeopardy type games in Science and Social Studies classes with good results.

I like to use games and game like activities to reinforce lessons. It helps kids retain better, which is a good thing because studies show kids today retain much less than kids 10, 20, and 30 years ago. Today's kids also have shorter attention spans.

I still remember the first season of Who Wants to be a Millionaire when the first million dollar winner went all the way to the last question without using a lifeline, and then used phone a friend to call his dad and tell him he was about to win the million dollars.

How deceitful, fooling kids into learning because they think it's a game! Seriously, sounds like a great way to make math palatable to kids who might otherwise be intimidated by it.
