I can't Sleep

The last week or so has been rough I get maybe three or four hours of sleep a night. I can't shut down my mind and my body itches and hurts. I can't put my head on a pillow because my hair hurts. I sit up half the night watching youtube videos. Do you have any hints about how to get to sleep and stay asleep? Do you ever have a problem like mine? Please share.

Even when things are going rough, I tend to sleep well. I usually read in bed and put my book or magazine down when things go blurry or I'm reading the same paragraph over and over. If I need a little "help," I might take a Benadryl, as Benadryl knocks me out. I can't take it during the day or I'm a zombie by mid-afternoon.

That's funny. That is when I put the book down too. It is when I get blurry or read the same thing over and over and have no idea what it said.

@TheHorse It is nerve pain, the worst kind. The only way I found to make it better is to not eat anything. But I can only do that a couple of days at a time.

@akalinus But sleep still comes slowly? What cause the pain? I wonder if Benadryl might help. I think it reduces swelling, though I'm not sure.

Most of the time I do not sleep well. I wake up many times during the night. I only read before sleeping, I do not have the TV in the bedroom, so I do everything right, but nothing helps.

@akalinus I do not sleep well, at most I arrive to sleep 4 hours without waking up, if I am very tired. My phone is not in my bedroom.

I'm sorry to hear that. I just assumed that you got good sleep every day. I don't have a TV in the bedroom either but my phone is there.

Have you considered taking Melantonin (I might be spelling that wrong)? Or getting some "sleepytime tea" ? If you can turn off all entertainment an hour before you go to bed, and either read, or attend to light chores, it should help you wind things down as well

I usually read before going to sleep. But lately, I am having trouble concentrating. I do have something on before bed, usually youtube if I can't fall asleep after I read.

@akalinus I've read that those type things can be more of a distraction. I know that everyone is different, but t.v. stimulates my mind instead of getting it to shut down.

I usually can stay sleep. But last night I was hot and I kept thinking about the book I'm reading. I used to read boring parts of the bible to help me sleep.

I don't sleep well but don't have any hints about how to stay asleep. I'll be reading the responses trying to learn something that might help me too.

@JudyEv Yes, it is a great place to learn new things. I enjoy reading about experiences I never had. I like hearing about customs in other places.

@akalinus I've learnt all sorts of helpful things here. It's a great site for advice as well as for just talking to people.

@theend I almost fell asleep on my laptop reading that comment. Although moral ethics can get interesting especially concerning medical subjects. I think I am doomed to never sleep again.

@akalinus I often put a book on moral ethics and how to communicate.

Maybe take Bendryl before bed? Itching? sounds like an allergy, maybe to new washing liquid? You could come and help me mow all this grass, its a guaranteed good nights sleep.

I take Gabapentin for nerve damage but the doctor wants me not to take it if I can help it. Thankfully, I don't have to do yard work anymore. The park does it and we pay for it with an increase in the rent. It makes me break out. I had to keep that hedge trimmed. Thank goodness, it is gone, I asked someone to cut it down.

That is good to know. I will try that. Why is it so hard to shut our minds down?
