Salt is a nutrient used in the body to regulate fluid and to keep a normal PH or acid level of the blood. Many people enjoy a lot of salt added to their food. But, too much salt can cause headaches and kidney stones. The recommended amount of salt the regular public should have in between 2,400 mg. and 3,000 mg. per day. People who are suffering from kidney disease of high blood pressure should watch their daily intake. Use herbs instead of salt or even pepper and garlic. Reduce usage of ketchup, soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, salad dressing, pickles, and steak sauce.

My diet has been low salt to the point that I have to be careful to make sure I'm getting enough. That is the exception rather than the rule I know but do have to make a conscious point to add some sometimes. With the cooler weather, it will be less of an issue because I will lose less salt on the job sweating.

That is true. I like pepper and garlic rather than salt.
