Lunch Appointment

I have a meeting for lunch today with an editor and my best friend. I haven't dealt with an editor since the last one messed me up so bad, and made my manuscript look like an alien had worked on it.
My friend knows my qualms about editors after the last experience and has assured me the one I'm meeting today is on the level. She is familiar with the editors I had and knows other authors have had trouble with them and left them.
My friend just called and changed the time of the lunch meeting, so I'll be leaving in half an hour.
I've also decided not to put the lawyer's name on the book. Having discussed it with some friends at the pool this morning, it was decided it would be better not to do that. My friend also agrees with that reasoning as well.
Okay, I'm basically rambling as I get ready for this meeting. I have the first three chapters printed up and I'm ready.
How is your day going? I've been to the pool and taken my morning nap. It's raining and gloomy as we are getting hit with hurricane weather as I've seen the pattern coming up from the gulf.
Thanks for reading.

That was the last day of rain. We're now drying out. It was a good meeting, thank you.

Editors terrify me, especially with a really bad situation I had with some of my scripts. And now I just let my mom look things over because she is really good at finding errors and is very blunt with me and I love that. I hope things go well with this potential new editors and you have a great day!

I won't be hiring her, and she knew that going into the lunch meeting. She wanted to meet me, and it was a good meeting. She did look over what I brought with me, and I'm back at the drawing board with the manuscript, and using another editing site that I paid for that is affordable.

@DesirousDreamer I've never heard of that trick. Interesting.

@just4him Makes sense! You can always to the old fashion trick of reading pages backward haha very time consuming because it is obviously a novel, but effective.

I hope your luncheon went well. After doing some editing for Vivian I discovered the best way to edit is to make changes or suggestions on a word doc using I think it was the review tab. Then the author does the actual changing.
When I helped with my husband's book I had yet to learn that and changed the text myself. He wasn't too happy with me as can be expected.
Its your friend also an agent or does she happen to know a bunch of editors?

@just4him so she gave you suggestions and does she seem like she will be reasonable to work with? Did she suggest the new editing program and did it cost anything?

@MarshaMusselman Yes, she would be much better to work with. She used to work with a company out of New York City and has worked with all the big name authors, including Stephen King. I was happy to get some feedback from her. No, she didn't suggest the program. Yes, it costs $50/year. Extremely reasonable.

No, my friend isn't an agent, just a friend from Writer's Guild who knows the editor and was part of some classes she had last year. The editor has worked with many famous authors. She told me my book still needed work, so I'm back at the drawing board with a new editing program.

She lives here in Green Bay and had classes last year that my friend went to, but I was unable to due to time conflicts with something else I was involved in. She's not my editor, but she wanted to meet me. She's very good and has worked with many famous authors. She wanted me to send her my first chapter, and I did when I had it edited. I got it back and the improvement was phenomenal. I wish I could afford her.

You are still way good. Cause it is very hard to write a manuscript. So still good job.

I hope all is successful with the meeting and your book. I am ready to go to sleep. It has rained all over the state today.

It was successful, thank you. I hope you had a good night's sleep. Rain does that for me.

I remember what that other editor did to your manuscript and glad you have a "normal" one. It isn't necessary to mention the lawyer, especially without his permission. That could open a can of worms. Hope all went well and you enjoyed lunch.

I'm not mentioning him, even though I did ask. Yes, it's good to have a good editor on my side, even though I won't be working with her as I really can't afford it. I wish I could. She's worked with the best authors, including Stephen King. And she lives here and opened her own editing business.

I hope you like the editor, and they love the chapters you bring.
