Little Pockets

If I close my eyes, I can still somewhat see it. That girl from a long time ago, her hair an unruly mess, her lips upturned in a disdainful manner. Her clothes wrinkled and baggy around her frame. She felt both content and out of sorts with herself and her surroundings. On one hand, if she could block out all the noise, and divert her gaze from the top of the hill, she could almost imagine herself in another setting. On the other, she was curious about the little pocket of nature in the middle of the urban jungle. She hated it there. Hated the people around her, the mocking, the cruel nature of a prepubescent child. She just wanted people to let her go into her own little world, where she was happy, where she was safe. Instead she was forced to participate in activities that made her head hurt, her legs sore, and her lungs burn. The structures that grew around her felt like a physical stab to her heart. When I open my eyes, I smile. That time of my life is a long ago memory now. I can still remember when I thought those years would drone on forever, and now I find myself wistful for the innocence of my youth.

I'd say you have a good writing skills there. I think if you continue on with the one you started you could write a novel and a short story there.

Thank You. I am not sure that I could elaborate much on this piece though.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Well it's a start of a story of your life. I think you can do that but I guess when you do that not in here anymore.

@rsa101 haha, even so, it's only snippets of memories that pop in, and not all of them are nice. Even this memory isn't the nicest.

Sometimes I remember the days the nuns forced me to play outside with the others, when all I wanted was to quietly sit inside with a book. Those are not good memories.

That would not have been a nice memory for me either. They should have encouraged your passion for reading.

@LadyDuck Very strange mentality for sure. Of course, I have never been very well educated in religion. It might seem strange, especially if you knew that my grandfather was once a preacher.

@ScribbledAdNauseum They obliged all the girls to stay together and play sports. They did not want to see girls alone or in couple. Sick mentality.

That's how I feel when I remember it. Sad, yet also happy. It feels almost bittersweet.

Sometimes we all like to reminisce about the innocence of childhood. That was a long time ago.

How we used to crave to stay young, until one day when all we wanted to be was grown up. Now we realize those carefree days of play were the best.

You write effectively write an author of a novel or short story. You write well in narrative and descriptive. And the ending, its you, what a surprise.
