Day 20
Luke 6:39
Luke 6:39 And he spoke a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? Shall they not both fall into the ditch?
40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.
41 And why behold thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but perceive not the beam that is in thine own eye?
42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself behold not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye.
43 For a good tree brings not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
47 Whosoever comes to me, and hears my sayings, and does them, I will show you to whom he is like:
48 He is like a man which built a house, and dug deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
49 But he that hears, and does not, is like a man that without a foundation built a house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
Every day, every minute of every day, you read or hear about the people you feel are important in life, whether they’re leaders, or celebrities. You can follow every move they make, and form opinions about what they say and do. You either criticize their behavior, or boast about it. What benefit is that to you?
Jesus said you are to consider your own actions before you consider someone else’s. You are to listen to what he says and do what he tells you. When you do, your life will be a firm foundation, built on Jesus Christ and not on what the world offers you.
As Christians, you know the truth. You know gossip kills the soul, destroying you from the inside out every time you participate in whatever the world is dishing up.
Your life should bear good fruit. When it does, yes, people will come against you because you aren’t following the world and taking part in its disgrace. However, if you keep yourself from the ways of the world, nobody will be able to find fault with you.
Jesus called himself the vine and us the branches and told us how we are to live our lives bringing glory to the Father.
John 15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that bears not fruit he takes away: and every branch that bears fruit, he purges it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
When you go after the problems you see in other people, you are not doing the will of God for you. You are acting as spoiled fruit, not fit for the kingdom of God and is tossed into the fire and purged.
Instead, consider your actions, and do what you can to make your life better through Jesus Christ, and he will give you the desires of your heart because you are doing the Father’s will not your own.
Psalm 37:3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. (KJV)
This is God’s promise to you if you follow him and not the world. If you consider your actions and not what everyone else is doing, your life will be one others will want to follow.
Build your life on the foundation of God’s Word, and you will be able to stand against the storms of this life.
Let’s pray: Father, let me focus on you and not the world. Help me see my problems and seek you to fix them with your help. Let my life be built on you and not on the shaky foundation of the world. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
