Do you mute your TV when there are advertisements?

When the Cable TV started off as a cheap service in India, it relied mostly on the ads for its revenues. Now that almost all the reputed channels are subscription based, the overall cable bill isn't cheap anymore. But the ad revenue model are not totally ditched by the channels. Whether we watch movie, sports, daily Soaps, reality shows, advertisements on the TV are there with us always. Surprisingly I always find the sounds of the advertisements to be more audible than the program itself. Sometimes the ad break seem to take forever to finish especially when watching a good movie, ultimately affecting the experience. I'm not totally averse to advertisements but I feel annoyed when the channels incorporate them too often and in a repeated mode within a program . During a program I like to mute the TV sometimes when advertisements begin but my other family members don't care at all doing that. Wouldn't it be nicer if we had some sort of an adblocker kind of thing on our TV to really call it smart ?

Our small TV broke and said goodbye in 1999. Couldn't get ourselves to buy a replacement since.

That's a heck lot of years.... you got used to being without it I suppose. No TV commercials got a chance to bother you since then

I just think it crazy that there has to be so many commercials between a show on TV. Like you said, you get into a good movie and about the time it gets to a real good part, bamb, there's around 10 mins of commercials. But most of the time when they come on I just let them them play, I don't turn down the sound. This is why sometimes I wish I has a DVR, then I could just fast forward through them. One thing that amuses me is, before there was such a thing as cable, and TV was free, we were told the reason for the commercials was so we could have TV for free. Well since we have to pay for cable, what is their excuse for all the commercials now!

I often wonder do the TV manufacturers purposefully do some trickery with the volume to make it happen
