Pointing out misspelling on Mylot

One of the things I hate the most is when other people go around mylot and point out misspellings. Very annoying and also disrespectful to the person that did the misspelling in the first place.
I myself misspell stuff all of the time. I always makes me very upset when someone points it out. I’m not perfect I’m far from perfect. The one thing I can never change is the fact that I was born with a learning disability which means I missspell a lot of things or mix them up with other things specially when I’m writhing. I don’t always go back through and read every little thing I write. I also don’t go around and pointing peoples mess ups. If you point out my mistakes I’m going to call you out on it for the fact that you did. Don’t troll people and adult and just leave it.

I know in the past we would get in trouble with admins for correcting others. I do not know if they are so strict any more. If I think a person would want to know they had an error I would probably tell them in a private message. No one wants to be embarrassed that way. Sometimes I do go into the discussion and spell the misspelled word correctly when using it myself, so the poster might notice and edit.

It is very embarrassing when someone points something out to others. I typically do not point it out. If I don’t understand I ask a question or word it in away to get clearification.

When I point things out, I never do it to be rude or insulting. However, it seems as if people here take it in that manner. If I see someone use the wrong word for something, especially if their first language isn't English, I try to help by suggesting that they use a different word, or explaining that the word they are using doesn't mean what they think it does, or atleast not in that context.
English is a complicated language, and it is so easy to make mistakes with it. Spelling mistakes, mistakes with the tenses, etc. I know I've made mistakes just by thinking I've typed a word out that I hadn't. I've missed words that way and made it where what I was saying didn't make much sense.
I hope I've never insulted you, but if I have, I hope you accept my apology.

I haven seen you do some. From someone with a learning disability when people point out our wrong it’s like that person is rubbing it in your face that they are better then you for knowing the difference, or not choicing to move on. Also when they make fun of your mistake like it won’t hurt that person feelings. Just because it’s doesn’t mean it might not hurt still. Online you can’t see how someone takes what your writing so the emotions don’t pass for if your truly being kind of if your just being a mean or even worse a jerk.

In your own interest you should go back and check. That way you will improve your own writing Pointing out mistakes here at myLot is a violation but I would certainly appreciate it if they did that to my writings.

That doesn’t work with someone with a learning disability. Some things just don’t work that way. You can go back as many times as you like and still misspell things or miss things.

As a teacher and a writer, noticing spelling errors is something second nature to me. Just because I notice them, however, doesn't mean I have to take note of them. When my students write a first draft of a paper for me, I pay very little attention to the spelling as long as I can make out the word they mean. Posts here on myLot are much like first drafts. They are done once and posted, therefore, to me at least, spelling shouldn't be treated as that big an issue.

It is against the rules to "Criticizing users for bad or broken English - We have users from all around the world, and they are welcome regardless of their proficiency with the English language"
I've mentioned typos and other issues many times but only to people that I know beforehand actually want me to do so.
I'd more than likely not say anything to anyone who made a spelling mistake unless it was one that actually made it hard to understand something...then I'd send them a message and hope they took it as my trying to help rather than picking on their spelling/grammar.

No rules but you should always think before you say something like pointing out a mistaken word or misspelling. Someone can easily have their feelings hurts. I personally do not like it when people point them out. Unless this ways class work which it’s not it’s a form so how someone writes shouldn’t be judge or pointed out.

It wouldn’t be my first. Mylot gets lots of trolls and they think it’s funny when they laugh at other people’s mistakes.

@ShyBear88 Yes, that is true. It does happen if you have a learning disability. It's not always easy. It happens. However that doesn't mean people have to point them out.

Someone with a learning disability when people do that it’s very upsetting. It’s not helpful at all and then when they go around joking about your mistakes it isn’t very nice.

@dodo19 that is why people don’t have to point out other people’s mistakes when writing. This is also not school jsut a form their is not formal way of writing at all.

I would rather that someone point out my mistake in a kind way so I can fix it. We all have differing abilities. Pointing out a spelling mistake is not a way of putting you down. The wrong spelling can change the meaning entirely.
Try not to be offended.

But to someone with a learning disability when others point out our mistakes it is being offensive especial when they go around making jokes repeatlu so about that mistaken word because they think it’s funny. It’s not being kind at all it’s being a pure jerk.

@Morleyhunt that’s not a service to point out someone’s mistakes. It’s a form and we all know every well there are people from all over the world in here so words will be spelled different and their formats will also be different.

@ShyBear88 those on Mylot were not aware you were different abled. They were pointing it out as a service, not a criticism.

@myklj999 No one pointed out any mistakes to me. Duh! This isn't a writing contest anyway. Keep your one upmanship to yourself please.

@snowy22315 actually offense and offence have the same meaning...the difference is 'offence' British English and 'offence' is American English...but it both conveys the same meaning

I make a lot of grammatical errors as well. You can use Grammarly, Shy. That's what I have been using to make typing more effective and efficient. good night

I don’t need to fix every word I write. That would take to long and especially with someone with a learning disability. We don’t see those mistakes
