when it comes to meetings, are you

the organizer? the one who leads it? or takes the minutes?
while the meeting is ongoing, are you quiet? actively involved? sleep? doing something else? or joking around?
i've never led a meeting or presented anything or taken minutes.
i'm just one of the attendees.
but i'm quiet, observe people, take my own notes.
i will only speak when someone asks me to answer a question or give a suggestion.
but if someone is asking about something i'm interested in, i might join in giving examples or scenarios so i can get clarity on it, too.
however, it cannot be helped that others don't listen or do something else during meetings, especially now that we have phones, tablets and laptops.
some are just chatting and joking around with their seatmates.

when i was the head nurse of the secondary hospital where i worked for more than 10 years, i would usually set the date of our staff meetings and concerns are always brought up.
when i attend meetings too, i listen intently, and more often than not, i am the one who voices out the concerns of the other part-timers.

i guess being part-timers, there might be a tendency for your group to be overlooked or they assume you'll just go along with whatever was decided on/implemented

@ridingbet i think it's the same in class. my niece and nephew are older than their classmates and where often "expected" to be the leader.

I really dislike meetings. I stay quieter these days but when I was working I would voice concerns of others as I had heard them. No-one ever backed me up and I was seen as a trouble maker and/or time waster. A lot of the time I would see the upper managers flapping their mouths and their power- such a pain. The best thing was lunch.

@hereandthere It's quite demoralising when it happens. Glad I don't need to attend official meetings anymore. These days it's more community stuff and I keep my mouth shut, lol.

it's such a time-waster and only a few issues get resolved or agreed upon.

@hereandthere Vince sometimes spent most of his day attending meetings and found it really difficult to get any work done.

@hereandthere Yes, sometimes. I have to staff (both guys) and I have no problem talking to them about how things should be better done and they really would follow. So, meetings are rare.

I don’t like meetings and try my best to be quiet and just be in the background when holding one. But when I worked as an aged care nurse. My job was more managerial than being a subordinate and I’ve had a share of talk time in meeting. Which I really dread.

@hereandthere Yes as I delegate it to care staffs. I only do complex nursing care. But for someone doing managerial position I am pretty hands on.

I already tried calling and leading a meeting when I was the president in our organization back in college but now that I'm working, I'm just a listener. I still do my work while the meeting is on going

When I was still working, I really do listen when someone is presenting
because It helps me to improve mine and see what I can improve on with my own report

Some people simply don't know how to listen, gives them trouble later on.

it would be hard to stay alert, even if you want to be respectful. i'd probably end up doodling or talking to seatmates to stay awake. but with today's phones, most people are probably multitasking.

haha I love that photo very funny.
I like the Eat Donuts part and that is just what we used to do at work meetings at the salon.
It was fun but no one wanted to go to meetings early on Sunday mornings.
I could lead sometimes, I am in no fear of speaking in front of people.

i'd rather have the meeting on the last day of work than wake up on a sunday just for that
i saw other more colorful versions of it but without the Eat Donuts so i stuck with that
are you also good at being a moderator?

I am most of the time involved in the discussion. Some say they need my energy to entice others to participate.
