Day 36 Luke 9:28 Luke 9:28 And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. 29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. 30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: 31 Who appeared in glory, and spoke of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. 33 And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. 34 While he thus spoke, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. 35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. 36 And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen. Have you experienced something so wonderful, you wanted the experience to continue and not end? Jesus took Peter, James, and John up a mountain, and while they were there, Elijah and Moses appeared with him in his glory, and spoke with him. Peter was ready to stay, and not let the moment end when he said they should build tabernacles, or homes, for Moses and Elijah. When a cloud descended and God spoke from the cloud, it stopped all thought of staying on the mountain with Moses, Elijah, and Jesus. As Christians, you know it wasn’t the first time God appeared in a cloud and spoke to His people. He did so on Mount Sinai. When the people heard Him speak to them, they begged Moses to have God speak to him only and they would obey. Exodus 20:18 And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. 19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die. 20 And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. 21 And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was. (KJV) When they finished building the tabernacle, God covered it with the glory cloud of His presence. Exodus 40:34 Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. 35 And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. (KJV) When Solomon completed building the temple, God filled the holy place with His glory, so that the priests were unable to minister until the cloud lifted. 1 Kings 8:10 And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD, 11 So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD. (KJV) It was the same glory cloud of God’s presence, Peter, James, and John saw when they were on the mountain with Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. Not only did they see the glory cloud, they saw Jesus in His glory, being transformed before them so that He glistened like the brilliance of the sun. With Jesus in His altered appearance, it was too much for Peter, James, and John to comprehend and they slept. When they woke, Peter wanted to build houses for everyone. He didn’t want the moment to end, but wanted to live in the presence of Jesus in that state from then on. There will come a day when you pass from this life to eternity, and you will see Jesus in His glory. When you do, you will find it was Jesus who prepared a place for you, and you will never leave His presence again. John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. (KJV) Peter, James, and John experienced a momentary presence of God. When they passed to eternity, that experience became eternal. One day it will be your experience too. What a glorious day that will be. Let’s pray: Father, let Your presence dwell in me. Let me experience Your glory. Let it fill me to overflowing, so people will know You live in me. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 27 September 2018 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
