Giving in my notice

I have just given notice that I intend to leave my part-time job at De Montfort University, Leicester. I have been there for 16 years, doing one evening a week - term-time only - in the university library. The main problem I have is that the bus company changed their timetable and removed the late bus that I took to get home out in the countryside. For the last year or so I have had to rely on my wife picking me up or leaving the car for me while she took an earlier bus home (she works in the city but not at the University). This is an inconvenience that we could do without if possible - and the reasons for carrying on do not outweigh those for leaving. This seems like a good time to leave, especially as the University wants to introduce a new contract that is not as good as the old one from my perspective. I will carry on until December, which is more than I am required to do, but it is only fair to give the library managers time to make alternative arrangements for staffing the place on Monday evenings. It will be sad to go, but it had to happen some time!

The important thing here is that you have to do what is best for you.

Absolutely. And not just me - it is the inconvenience caused to my wife by the transport problem that is the main consideration here.

I can relate to your feeling. I had to let go my favorite work this July due to some health issues. I am on a break and miss my work.

It does sound like it would be an inconvenience to continue. Hopefully they'll find a suitable person for one evening a week.
