Day 40
Luke 10:1
Luke 10:1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.
2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest.
3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
4 Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.
5 And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.
6 And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.
7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
8 And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:
9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
10 But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,
11 Even the very dust of your city, which cleaves on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
12 But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.
13 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! Woe unto thee, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
14 But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.
15 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell.
16 He that hears you hears me; and he that despises you despises me; and he that despises me despises him that sent me.
17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.
22 All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knows who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.
23 And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see:
24 For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
Many churches have ministries that send their people out to the streets with the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Where I live, there are men on street corners holding a cross, letting everyone know about Jesus. Many people ignore these men, but for any who stop, they have a message, and if they need a Bible, they have one to give.
The Gideons is another organization who puts Bibles in every hotel and hospital room in the US and where they can in every country around the world.
Ministries like Convoy of Hope and Samaritans Purse go into disaster struck areas with food, clothing, and medical help.
Missionaries are sent throughout the world to bring the gospel to the nations and places who never heard the name of Jesus.
Jesus was the first to send disciples to the people to tell them about the kingdom of heaven. They were the first given the power to heal and cast out devils. When they returned, they did so rejoicing over the work God did in them.
Jesus then told them something they were unaware of, He saw Satan fall as lightning from heaven. And then told them it was more important that their names were written in heaven than for demons to be subject to them.
As Christians, what is your focus in ministry? Is it to get recognition for what you accomplish for Jesus Christ and what he called you to do? Or is it centered on the souls saved?
In your job, do you get a pat on the back when you do what you were trained to do? No. You might get a pay raise as your recognition of doing your job well, but you won’t hear accolades from your boss because you were doing what you were trained to do.
Jesus told his disciples and he is telling you to pray for laborers to go to the harvest fields because there aren’t many people who want to take the gospel to the nations.
Has Jesus called you to mission work? Rejoice in your calling and do it with an excellent spirit, giving the work God called you to do to see it through to completion. Your job is to present the gospel. It isn’t your job to save anyone. Don’t try to do the Holy Spirit’s job, which is to bring souls to salvation.
When you do the work, God called you to do, your name will be written down in God’s book in heaven. That is where your rejoicing should be, because you’ve done what God called you to do, and that’s God’s reward for a job well done.
Revelation 3:5 He that overcomes, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
Your reward is Jesus’ confession of you to the Father and the angels sent from God for your protection, and your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
Because Jesus will not blot your name out of the book of life, no one will be able to take you out of the Father’s hand.
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
30 I and my Father are one. (KJV)
God called you for a special work. Do it to the glory of God, not for your own reward, but for the reward God will give you when you stand before his presence, and you hear him say, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.’
Let’s pray: Father, help me do the work you called me to do to the best of my ability, not for my glory or earthly reward, but for the reward you will give me as a faithful servant. Let everything I do be for your glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
