I know it's been a while since I posted this day in history. A lot has been going on. However, I have some time now to get this post done while it's still the first of the month.
Today has some interesting events. It's a day for conquering countries and the universe.
First, is Alexander the Great, and his defeat of the Persians in 331 BCE. He was outnumbered in the Battle of Gaugamela, his superior war tactics won a decisive victory over Darius III, ending two thousand years of Persian rule and began two thousand years of Hellenistic rule.
Next, a little closer in time is the Model T in 1908. Consumers can now conquer the streets with this hot little item put on the market for the great price of $825. Try to buy the same car today for that price. Won't happen. Even if an owner of the Model T exists, parting with it would probably cost a buyer millions of dollars.
Moving right along in time, we come to another war story. This one is an after war event. The Nuremberg trials of 1946. Of the twenty-four convicted Nazi war criminals, twelve were executed. Including Hermann Goering.
And finally, we conquer Space. In 1958 NASA became active by an act of Congress under President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Something the Federal government deemed necessary because Russia had launched Sputnik 1. And the space race is on. Astronaut Alan Shepherd would become the first Astronaut in American history. Astronaut Neil Armstrong would become the first man on the moon.
Thanks for reading.

It was a busy day for the world. I think the Model T was a terrific looking little car. I would love to pay the going price of $825 today. Alexander the Great was one of the events and people that I taught my class when I was teach Ancient History.
