no DUTY on…

...the 15th and 16th of this month again. Hello there, my fellow users of this site, how is your day? The sun is shining brightly and there is soft wind blowing; skies are clear and the birds are happily chirping. It seems we will have a good fair weather today. The clinical coordinator once again informed us through the Facebook messenger that we will not have duty on the 3rd Monday and Tuesday of the month. It is because there will be school activities called ‘Intramurals’. That is why my son also brought the chess set in school because he will coach some of his students about the game. He asked me too about our scrabble board and the letter tiles, to which I said it is hidden ‘somewhere’ in the house, and instead asked him to tell any of his students to use theirs so they won’t be so dependent on him. If we have no duty on those days, it is therefore expected that our salary for 6 days will be reduced to just 4 days. The advantage for me is, I will have more time to rest and watch my favorite shows on television. Do you feel sad, happy, or annoyed, when your work time or days are reduced due to some unexpected circumstances beyond your control?

I think it depends on my needs. If I have enough and my work days was reduced it is okay but it is a different story if I am in need.

@simplfred good for you! for me, i rely on my salary for my medicines, and my share for the house's expenses.

As we worked for ourselves it never happened that our work time had been reduced. Of course receiving less money could be a problem.

when we work in government offices, our salaries are permanently given even if we have some holidays. it is different as part-time employees of a college of nursing which is not a big school.

Yes that has happened to me before. Unexpected circumstances do happen and there is nothing that you can do about it.

that is true. but sometimes the announcements are not real. one time the clinical coordinator said 'we won't have duty next week', then later on, we learned 'we will have on Tuesday'.

Well, it never happened to me before. But of course, somehow if the money is an issue it will be a big disappointment for sure.

it is good because we are no longer deducted 10% or 8% from our salary, so we receive our salary as whole depending on how many days we rendered our service. unlike before, we are deducted 10% and their reason is professional tax. 10% every pay day is too much.

Actually since here we are paid on monthly basis, we are happy when work days are reduced.

if you work in government office, that is true. if in a private establishment, it is a 'no work, no pay' policy

the first semester will end on December. i hope i will be given 3rd year level students to handle because 3rd year duty days should stop on April next year, unlike 4th year where they end on February. may i ask why you are moving to a different location? is it work-related?

I was always happy, even though it meant my pay was a bit short. The job I had wasn't one I was particularly fond of, so any time away from it was a blessing. Though it only happened on my days off. I worked in a call center, which operated around the clock 7 days a week. I'm very happy to be retired.

if i have no duty, i take it is a rest day. medical ward in the hospital is the most toxic ward, even the aisles are filled with patients, reaching the entrances of pediatric and surgery wards. that is why when we have no duty, i should take that as an advantage.

I'm a full-time worker so they can't cut back on my pay unless I take too many personal days (more than 3) or too many health days (but we have plenty so I have never had a problem there.) Part-time teachers have this problem and are sometimes happy and sometimes annoyed.

I will not feel good about reduction in salary if I am in need. But having few extra days to relax and myLot is always welcome.

for us, it is dependent on the number of days we have our duty. a reduction of salaries happen if we have few working days only.

@arunima25 that is true. and i am given 2 duty days for a week, so if we have no duty for 2 days, it follows we have lesser salaries. unlike if i have 4 duty days, i can even save in the bank.
