Blue ribbon is not a FLAVOR of ice cream. Blue ribbon award is the reason we received ice cream. The whole school.
The caption tells you, our elementary school is one of 349 schools in the nation to receive this honor. As a comparison, there are 139,000 schools in the nation.
We are one of six in the state of Kansas.
The only school in our county ever to receive this designation.
It has to do with many things, like meeting the needs of students, improving test scores, types of programs offered, etc.
An example of things we do: The program I am in that facilitates learning for the most severely handicapped.
Other things: Our PE teacher is constantly coming up with new games and activities to encourage health.
This week we had health educators present to the kids in age appropriate ways videos and puppets about eating healthy and exercising. It was done in small groups.
We participate in literacy programs all year. That includes "one book, one school".
Our fifth grade class signs up for a science and math unit in another town at a technical school to learn about programming, robotics and lots of other science things. We transport them once a week for about eight weeks to this activity.
Just many wonderful things here. Proud of the district.
