I started cooking on the Gas stove yesterday and tested it on sweet potatoes.
Then after the black out this morning, I went to heat the coals again to soften cow meat. We weren't gonna waste it on gas, but it took me time to realize that constant wind to make the fire
It wasn't the first time I've done it though. The only trouble there is the smoke.

we also cook cow's or carabao's meat through the burning coals. it is also better than firewood.
we Ilocanos have some practices to soften meat. sometimes we add a spoon, or match stick. hahaha. the practices of our mother that we sometimes do.

@brokenbee my mother often said the spoon will get the hardness of the meat. the match stick, i do not really know the reason.

Oh you still are using that for cooking. Although it is a lot more cheaper but it tends to create a lot of smoke in the process. If you do have a wide open spaces they can be used but when you are in a tight neighborhood they might complain about it.

Hello @rsa101 yes, we still using it but it was for the cow meat because it takes time and more gas to boil it. So we use coal instead. It was good thing no one complained, not much neighbors anymore since it's more business now a days.

@Letranknight2015 Well it really depends on the place actually. In our place there is a barbecue stand and they have to make a chimney for that to operate in our barangay else he will not be allowed to do business there.

@Letranknight2015 My water heater isn't working so I had to boil water to mix with the cold water to wash the dishes in.

Hello @caopaopao We use LPG gas to cook as well and have it refilled when it's empty.
But this time I decided to just try this out.

@Letranknight2015 I am still puzzled. In Zim they had properly made outside fires as well as inside gas or electric ovens

For us, when we want to soften cow's meat, we use the pressure cooker. It's only for 30 minutes.
At my parents house, when they want to soften meats, they use the coal stove.

Cool beans. I remember my late grandmother who likes to cook using coal instead of stove. It’s time-consuming but it helps save on gas.
