Pull tabs

Do you play pull tabs? I've played them only once, when a friend convinced me to drop $10 into a bucket for which I got $1 back. Well I guess the tradition is to take what you win and drop it back in the pull tab bucket. I would have rather minimized my loss down to $9. But, whatever. Of course the resulting ticket didn't win anything.
What a weird little habit/hobby pull tabs are.
In remember growing up in middle of nowhere Minnesota. We would go to this bar. That is my parents, friends of my parents and me. I was allowed in as I didn't cause a fuss, and well I was almost 18 anyway. We would visit the night away eating basket of French fries and drinking sodas.
Well there was this one lady, all done up hair and make up, who would sit by the bar on one of the high stools and play pull tabs. At the end of the night there would be a mountain of pull tabs by her. I often wondered where she got the money from.
I once was asked to go buy pull tabs for someone, because this was before I had ever played, and they knew that. It was like, a lucky thing. And sure enough, they won $200. (Now they probably spent way more than that playing the rest of the night, but it's a cool winning) - Bought my sandwich. That was cool.
Finally - a lot of the gas stations around here offer pull tabs for sale. I have never really understood this. Aren't bars and casinos good enough places for pull tabs? It wouldn't bother me - other than the pull tabbers tend to take up a lot of time and make long lines - for people who just want to buy some gas. I think if gas stations want to keep offering pull tabs, then they should have a special attendant who works a pull tab only lane.
What's your feelings on pull tabs?
Here's a video showing people playing pull tabs, incase you are unfamiliar with them. This video isn't mine, or anyone I know.

I know while I was growing up in Minneapolis I never heard the term. Not sure if things changed because I have only gone back twice after living here and have no idea if anyone there knows the term.

I never heard of it. Thanks for sharing.

@FayeHazel Thanks. But I stay away as I can not put my hard earned money at the stake of my luck.

Really? It's quite common thing at bars here - people will take these little baskets and put their spent ones in it. Or toss them on floor in mountains sometimes. It's kind of like a slot machine, on paper

Wow, I'm surprised a lot of people have said this. Must be a regional thing. Lots of bars, VFW, American Legion and gas stations have them here.

We don't have pull tabs in Colorado, just Lottery, Powerball, and scratchers. I did play a pull tab when I was in Minnesota, just to try it. Didn't win anything.

@FayeHazel - I think that they have them in Wyoming. I seem to remember them there.

Interesting... I didn't know they were so regional. Yeah I was rather underwhelmed with my experience with them, too ha

Ah yes, I have never understood the thrill, but people around here will sit for hours pulling open the little tabs...
Good for you. I actually just bought my first lottery ticket yesterday

Probably not. Personally I prefer the scratch offs - not that I do them alot. Hey I thought of you - I bought a powerball yesterday... first time for me.
