Apparently, My Lot, this is becoming a thing.
I don't mean kilts (which I'm a big fan of!)
I don't mean sarongs (big fan of that too)
Or the goth looking "one legged" pant (Yup, I like that one, too)
I mean, gauzey, flowy, hippy style skirts.
My friend's son recently wanted to get into the look. At first it was shocking to his wife - but, fairly soon no one thought on it, one way or another.
I saw it myself for the first time the hour I spent waiting for my dad to pick me up on a street corner in downtown Minneapolis. A man with a beard, masculine haircut, Carhart style jacket (for those who don't know, it's usually a tan "work" style jacket, very rugged and masculine looking thing.), work boots.... and a tie dyed skirt.
So he wasn't trying to cross dress, or convince people he was a woman. He was just wearing a skirt.
I think it's popular with the "Hipster" subset of culture, but what do I really know?
So what do you think, Mylot? Should this trend take off?
I think it's a very confident look for a man to pull off and I like when people are free enough to be themselves and do what they want, but I'm not sure that I "get" this look.
Men in Skirts Youtube video, apparently this has been popular for awhile :

I personally don't find it appealing but people have their own choices.
In our country men wear lungi as casual wear or night wear. That is more like a skirt but it covers your entire leg. With global influence youngsters have started with pyjamas and shorts but still there are few who prefer to wear lungi in night.

@arunima25 Oh, I understand better now. That could be a nice, and comfortable look

OH that's interesting. This lungi - is it just a bottom? Or is it more like a dress, or nightshirt (1 piece)? I think some of those can be nice looking

@FayeHazel Some community have it as their formal traditional attire. It is unstitched piece of cloth which you wrap around your waist like a skirt. It is only bottom and you can pair it with kurta/ shirt /T-shirt.

It's an odd look for sure. I "get" some of the other forms of "skirt" (like kilt, etc) more so.

I would rather wear gym shorts during the winter than wear a skirt in public.

@FayeHazel I am not the late Roddy Piper (Nee George Toombs) who played a Scottish character in pro wrestling.

@Deepizzaguy I didn't know his real name.
I was sad that he passed. I knew him from one of my favorite movies "They Live"

If I could afford everything that goes along with owning a kilt, I'd get one. Wear it with a pair of Docs. And a lot of my old goth friends did the goth skirt thing, but I have yet to see this!

@FayeHazel - I had to throw away my last pair of Docs. One of our cats peed on them and I couldn't get the smell out.

Docs are awesome and last forever. I have a pair that is abt 20 years old. :-)
Just the kilt by itself is a fine start :-)

I think this look was also tried by the son of Men In Black Hero.. I forgot his name but he was trolled and criticized.. But why can't they wear it.. Sure!! It will take some time for the eyes and the mind to accept it

@FayeHazel Yes, Exactly.. Will Smith's son was that.. Yeah, men here in India wear "lungi" which one can consider as their skirt

Oh uhm.... what was his name again? Will Smith?
I tend to agree. I don't "get it" as a look, but I like the confidence it exudes.

@CarolDM I don't get it, either.
It would be like a woman, wearing make up, hair done, fancy blouse, heels.... and overalls. or something
