Day 63
Luke 14:25
Luke 14:25 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,
26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sits not down first, and counts the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sits not down first, and consults whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that comes against him with twenty thousand?
32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation, and desires conditions of peace.
33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsakes not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
34 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be seasoned?
35 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Relationships are the foundations of our lives. How we build those relationships determines whether we have a firm foundation or an unstable one.
As Christians, you know your foundation is Jesus Christ. Your first relationship is with him. With your relationship laid, then you build your relationships with your family and friends. If you lay your foundation on the relationships with your family, your foundation is weak and will crumble and fall.
Jesus told the people they needed to count the cost in everything they did, whether they built a building or went to war. They needed to know if they could build or needed to wait. They needed to know if they would win the war, or if they needed diplomacy.
Everything you do has a cost to it, and it all starts with a firm foundation built on Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise master builder, I have laid the foundation, and another builds thereon. But let every man take heed how he builds thereupon.
11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
If you go forward with your plans without counting the cost, or laying a firm foundation, it will glean the same results as seasoning your food with flavorless salt. It won’t reap the benefits you expect. However, when your foundation is laid in Jesus Christ, your efforts will stand, and your relationships will stand because you laid them on Jesus Christ.
Is your foundation firm?
Let’s pray: Father, help me build a firm foundation, built on Jesus Christ. Help me count the cost in everything I do so my efforts aren’t wasted, but confirmed in you. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
