Reverse Drawing

The Knights of Columbus at our church will be holding their big annual fundraiser soon. Every year they run a reverse drawing and dinner event. Only a certain number of tickets are sold. Tickets are $50 each and that includes the cost of two fried or barbecued chicken dinner plates. First prize is $3,000 cash. The neat thing about a reverse drawing is that the last ticket drawn is the winner instead of the first. To make things more interesting, the last 5 ticket holders get to vote on whether to split the prize or keep going. The vote to split the prize has to be unanimous. I've only once seen a person with one of the last 5 tickets vote against splitting the money. Karma caught him. His ticket was the next one drawn and the remaining 4 voted to split. Each of them got an extra $150 out of it because of the 5th person's greed. There are also door prizes and a sidebar drawing going on in conjunction with the main drawing. Sidebar tickets are $5 each and numbered the same as the big money tickets. The last of these drawn is also the winner and the last 5 get to decide whether to go on or split the prize of $500. Additionally, as numbers are drawn, there are consolation prizes every so many numbers to take some of the sting out of being eliminated from the game. The dinner and drawing are always a lot of fun and are a good chance to see friends you don't often get to see outside church or school. Does your church or civic club sponsor events like this?

Does your community sponsor festivals and events to celebrate local anniversaries or happenings of note?

@andriaperry I'm surprised. Small towns around here fall all over themselves putting on festivals. Within a 20 mile radius of my house I have the chance to attend a Daffodil Festival, a Pickle Festival, a Derail-a-bration, a Founder's Day Festival and an Olde Timey Days Festival, not to mention the county fair. Most of the towns that sponsor those are small to very small, other than the Derail-a-bration and the Pickle Festival.

I never heard of a reverse drawing,,but it sounds really interesting! It would be great for those who think they get picked "last" for everything.

Exactly, in a reverse drawing getting picked last is the best.

I do not belong to a church. I believe in God and Jesus but not in the church in it self. I seen to many unbelievable things that Fathers, pastors etc have done.

I understand how you are turned off by the things you've seen and heard about. Many people are. It is a travesty when such things occur. The scariest part for me, though, is that such behavior is exponentially higher in public schools than in any church or denomination of churches, and yet people aren't deserting the schools in droves.

@DWDavis We went a few times when they organize a raffle or sell products hand made by local people. Last year there were paintings made by a local artists, but also local honey. At the beginning of December they organize a lunch for all those who are over 65 in our village. I am not sure we will go this year.

I do not belong to a church or civic club. However, where I live now in Daytona Beach there are many events that raise funds for different things. At the beginning of November, the Greek church across the street from us will be holding a festival for raising money for the church and goodwill. That will be interesting to see with lots of Greek food and dances. Perhaps there will be a drawing too.

That sounds like you will have lots of eager folks ready to spend money. I don't belong to groups so I don't know if anyone in my area does this or not.
