Day 72
Luke 17:7
Luke 17:7 But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat?
8 And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?
9 Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not.
10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.
We live in a time in history when children feel they are entitled to everything without working for it, and if they don’t like something they quit. We call them the entitled generation. This generation doesn’t know what it was like to live in poverty because the depression was so bad they stood in bread lines. Work was non-existent, and they were grateful for what they received. When people hired them, they didn’t quit to find a better job, but worked at it with all their might.
I wasn’t born in the age of the depression, but my parents and grandparents lived through it. I was brought up to value what I had and learned to work and not expect anything to be handed me. My allowance was a nickel a week. Eventually, I got a dime. Those were the times I grew up in.
Jesus told his disciples they were not to expect to be served, but to serve because it was their duty, and when the work was finished, then they could enjoy the pleasures of life.
As Christians, your duty is to serve others before you serve yourself. It isn’t to go out and apply for the pastor’s position before you go to seminary. You can’t expect the best job without working for it.
Jesus called people who worked for the kingdom of God, faithful servants. He rewarded his servants with the desires and petitions of their heart.
Life as a Christian is rewarding. It brings joy and honor when you know you’ve done your best and your best brings God glory.
Others before self is Jesus’ message to the church. He showed us a servant’s heart when he went to the cross and fulfilled the will of his Father for the salvation of mankind. Jesus practiced what he preached.
Do you have a servant’s heart? Or do you feel you are entitled to everything you desire?
Let’s pray: Father, give me a servant’s heart, ready to do your will and not mine, to bring you glory, and not me. Let me serve others before myself. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

Amen!
My grandmother lived through the depression. It really changed how some people lived and for her, she tended to horde and stock pile food so she could feed everyone and anyone. Literally, anyone who stopped by the house for dropping off mail or other services, she offered to feed and so on. She was just that kind of a person!
I don't think I am entitled to anything. If I deserve it, its because God thinks so and it happens! Otherwise, I think we all are here to do Gods work in helping each other and trying to make the world a little better.

Amen to that. None of us is entitled. You have a great testimony about your grandmother. Have a blessed day.
