We will do this, this year

reverse advent calendar

I did not grow up with a tradition of an "advent calendar", but I have often thought of doing one. I had this in my Facebook feed, and I have chosen to put it on my profile. More than that, though, I am going to plan on doing it this year. I am going to collect these items from my pantry, one by one. I will wrap a big box with Christmas paper to receive each item. Instead of the food bank in the next town, though, I am going to ask around here and see if there is a family that would find this to be a blessing. You can see that although there are some "holiday foods" there are also just plain, family style items that anyone could use. Especially families that have kids at home for school holidays, so the kids are not receiving school lunches. This is fun for me. Someone once told me that as long as you can give something away, you are not poor.

That is so wonderful, I also give food to people that need it as I go to food pantry myself, so I take a little give a little.

I have many friends like that. I have gotten senior commodities in the past, and will do so again, I am sure.

You did not see beef or turkey either. You can put what you choose in a box, though.

Thanks is such an incredible idea. I like that you plan to wrap the gifts and find a family to give them to!

@shaggin That is doable as well. I would actually like to find something to give the kids as a gift.

Well, just wrap the box to make it festive. I have the name of a family now that I will plan for.

Looking at the list, that is very doable - even to make a couple/few boxes! Here, there are many victims from the wildfires - many people have lost everything. I'll have to find that on FB and share it!

If people who can do things will do them, it makes it easier all the way around.

Nope, beans are no for me. But how come there's no pork? The only chicken you got there was the food.

We like beans. There is not a lot of canned pork available in our stores. I think that we can customize to our own taste.

The woman who told me that at times was raising her sister's kids or her brother's kids or all of them, including her five.

I hope so, but if not, that is okay, the food bank would be glad of it.

This is such a great idea! I'm going to share this with all my staff at work next week, and see if I can get everyone to agree to follow the list. We're always doing things to help the poor in our local community, and this is another great way to help. We already "adopt" a family during the holidays and buy all of their Christmas presents for their children, so this can be added to that as another wonderful way to help the less fortunate in our community.
