A Samoyed is a breed that is known as a herding dog. The name of this dog comes from the Samoyedic people of Siberia. These are fluffy white dogs used for pulling sleds and herding reindeer. They’ve made the expensive dog list since they cost from $8,000 to $10,000. Their lifespan is 12 – 13 years. Samoyeds are an ancient breed preferred by the nomadic tribes in Siberia. They were valued by early European explorers because they were also hardy and friendly dogs. They arrived in England in the late 1800s at times as gifts from the Czar of Russia. Queen Alexandra favored them. These dogs have been known to accompany many polar expeditions. One dog named Etah led Roald Amudsen’s first trip to the South Pole. Samoyeds are family dogs and tend to get along with other dogs and different kinds of pets. They do well with their human owners but must be carefully monitored around small children due to the fact that they can bet boisterous and might chase or nip which comes from their herding tendencies. Considering this if they can be taught to remain calm they might not be bad babysitters for children and will keep them “herded” together. Has anyone had such a dog or do you know anyone who owns one? Wiki image

Yes we had one when I was a child. Her name was Ira. You are right she was quite a nervy dog. I remember taking her for a country walk,. There were some prisoners out running on exercise and as they passed us they shouted Boo to the dog,. She was petrified and started to run off dragging me along the road I ended up letting her go as the gravel road was cutting my legs. It took her an hour or so to calm down! Her white fluffy coat was beautiful but it took ages to comb her but she enjoyed it.

Grooming and washing these kinds of breeds can be tough @garymarsh6 but I too would love to have such a fluffy dog.

The type of breed described here seems to be easy to train. Easy to train dogs are a joy for pet owners.
