Up in the Air, No Screw Driver Required

This post requires some explanation.
Because my house was a duplex, it has two hot water heaters. On the east end someone chose a unique way to install it. It is up on top of kind of a cabinet or box. The top part goes into the attic.
We had some friends of the family install the newer ones from our old house in this house when we moved. They did not replace the insulation or cover over the hole for the hot water heater.
I really noticed lately that there was a cold WIND blowing down from it.
Never having checked the attic myself, I decided I would cover the hole. That is when I saw the situation about the insulation.
I managed to put a piece over into the cavity around the hot water heater. You can see it in this picture.
The old wooden "collar" that fit in the pantry area was destroyed, and it was not shaped right for the newer hot water heater anyway.
I will buy one ceiling tile and cut it to fit at some point.
Meanwhile the cold wind that was blowing down is gone. It is much warmer in that part of the house.
It does not even matter, in this case, that my battery powered screwdriver is not charged.
Mark one thing off the never ending list.
Oh, and after dealing with the insulation, I got a shower, so I would not itch.

It was a major improvement. I did have to get hubby to come coax me down the attic stair/ladder.

@GardenGerty I know the feeling. Getting up is sometimes easier than coming back down again.

I had to have repairs to one hot water heater, when I had the plumber this summer. If I can get the funds together, next spring, before it is hot, I would love to have him alter the configuration of this one, putting it at ground level.

@GardenGerty They are very annoying here with the rules of electric stuff and any kind of heater. Five years ago we have been obliged to upgrade our gas system to follow the new anti-pollution rules. All people here had to upgrade. We did not like to spend money, but I have to say that we notice the big difference, there is no more pollution dust on our balconies.

There was a young plumber from another company we had out early this summer. He said there was one builder in the area that did that a lot. That allows another cabinet to be put in the base the hot water heater sits on. The nice young man said he could cheerfully strangle that builder. Pain to work on them.

That is odd. Can you light a candle and move it near the windows, etc.? Probably not since you are on oxygen. One thing that we found a week or so ago was that the storm window was open by hubby's desk and the indoor glass had kind of slid up. Just a tiny bit, but it sure made a breeze.

That would cause a bad draft. Glad you got it covered.

It made a huge difference. A large ceiling tile will also help.

I got myself a battery powered screw driver this summer, and I must say, I love it.

I have used them for years. Gotta find the big charger for the big screw driver. I could not figure out why it was not charging with the charger I was using. It was a 12 Volt charger and the screwdriver I kept trying to use is an 18 volt.
