You Need References

I've been filling out applications to places the past few days. I just ran across an application that required references. This is the first application in years that I've had to provide a reference.
Of course, last year I quit a job I had been working at for about six years and it's only been recently that I've really started applying for work.
I need people to cross their fingers, send positive vibes, prayers, or what have you.. I need a job!

Every application I have ever filled out required at least three references.

I've come across a couple that haven't required any. One was for the Dollar Tree. The other was through facebook and so maybe that's why.

@cindiowens This is very true, but the ones asking for references this time was Subway and I imagine they'll run a background check as well.
I've thought about trying to be a banquet server again, but I'm not sure if I want to go through that again. Good pay but so many long, long hours.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Oh Dollar Tree will run a background check on you probably, so references would be pretty much a waste of time I guess.
