The cost of software

Back in the day we used to spend 49.99 for software. You still do often for video games, but less so for software.
What is the most you would spend on a software solution? IE you want to file taxes, how much would you pay?
Or for that matter any task that you currently use software to complete. How much is the most you would pay for that software?

@DocAndersen So many software are now very poor quality. We always try the software on a spare computer to be sure it does not create problems. Some are impossible to fully uninstall, some changes some of your important settings, it was a lot different back in time.

@LadyDuck I agree. I actually have a virtual machine built on one of my computers for the sole purpose of installing new software to verify!

That is a great point, part of the overall market evolution.

30.00, or 40.00. I had to buy some software last Black Friday and I think it was 40 dollars. IT was a ebook converter which has helped me alot.

That is important, measure what it would have cost you without the software, and that makes the software more valuable!

It was cheaper before. I think now it went up higher than the usual.

The average cost of mobile applications in 2005 was 9.99
The average cost now is 1.99
Ten years and a really big decrease in cost!
