He didn't apologize

So I just read this story about Kevin Hart, he was going to host the 2019 Oscars, but then he decided not to.
He was announced as the host but then it came up that years ago he had tweeted somethings that were homophobic. He didn't argue that he did write them or that it was a joke or anything like that. All he said was that was years ago and he had grown over the years and matured over the years. He said he would step down and there were no hard feelings about it. They did say all he needed to do was apologize but he instead stepped aside and didn't apologize.
Personally, I thought this was awesome. Most of us have done or said something dumb and does that mean we have to apologize and beg forgiveness for it all? I don't want or need peoples insincere apologies.
I really kills me when it's people apologizing for things said 10, 20, 30 years ago. Really? For those demanding an apology, do you really think those people have not changed in that time. Yes, a few people still think and feel the same way but then they are not sorry and for those that changed why do they need to say sorry now? Especially when you are demanding it from them.
I just think when you are demanding someone say sorry for something, the odds are pretty slim they really are sorry about it and therefor means nothing to me.
Good for you Kevin, of standing up and not denying that you said it but just stating it was a long time ago and you have grown as a man since then.

He could have at least said that his homophobic remarks from whenever were stupid and based on ignorance. I know that those I made in my callow youth were.

@JamesHxstatic He could have I suppose. Now I of course don't know how he feels but maybe he doesn't feel he was wrong or what he said was wrong, then should he say that just to make people feel better?
Of course we used words for things that are no longer the politically correct term, then again politically correct terms were not a thing back then.

@Bensen32 I think that they actually were a thing, but we just did not realize how ignorant and callous we were about the feelings of others.

@JamesHxstatic I guess you might be right, I don't know for sure but I know the term politically correct was not a term used as it is today when I was a kid it started to be used like it is in the late 80's and really started to take hold in the 90's.
What happened to the "sticks and stones"? :)

I agree with you. I see no point in apologizing for something that you no longer agree with and was part of what you were decades ago. This is similar to the calls for nations to apologize for policies - such as slavery - that belonged to their history and play absolutely no part in what they are now.
