Mother prepared Cones on New Year's day and this she did year after year. I have prepared them too but occasionally. I have plans to prepare them this New Year. They are a rice preparation. The jack fruit leaves cones are lined with rice paste and stuffed with coconut, jaggery and cardamom mix The stuff is then steamed.

We call if for 'ada' in our native language. We use banana leaves or some other type of leave instead of Jack fruit.

Is that traditional for New Year's there? That sounds yummy! Is the rice paste basically mashed rice?

@allknowing Ah, like a rice flour turned to paste then? I would love to see what the "stuff" looks like inside those leaves!

Not traditional but mother made them. Not cooked rice but uncooked cooked ground to a paste.

It sounds good. But I need to drop rice until I get my body behaving again. If not for that I would be trying to make them if I could find the jack fruit leaves.

@allknowing They sound delicious! I think we have probably eaten something similar to that. I find Indian sweets are far too sweet for me but they are nice!

They are treated as molds and not eaten but they do contribute to the aroma a bit.
