My sister's new house

Recently we spent two nights at my sister’s new place. We were able to do some welding for her and her son. We welded legs on some steel mesh panels. These will become platforms for their goats to sleep on. We also put up some picture rails for her so we were pleased with our efforts.
She had her Christmas celebration on Sunday and we were able to catch up with two of her other sons.
She has only been in her house a short time. The outside gardens are not finished yet but already there are flowering plants in the gardens and they are all doing well. The photo shows the front entrance.

@arthurchappell There was a horrific fire last year in a Perth suburb caused by a guy welding in his backyard. We had a hose nearby and had raked away all the grass and leaves from around the area where we were working.

A new house keeps one on their toes and I see there will be a lot activity around that house specially developing the garden.

The house is looking beautiful! With the garden done I am sure that will be a cosy place to live in! I am happy that you had Christmas celebrations at her new place along with two of her sons too!
What for the goats are reared? For the milk or for the meat? This I am asking just because there is a belief that Goat meat is only eaten in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh! In other parts of the World people prefer sheep meat to eat!

@JudyEv , that is a nice piece of information for me. I am really happy to know that your sister and nephew had a goal holding the World record in milk production. I never had the idea that goat breeding and marketing is so organized in Australia. Thanks a lot for updating me.

@AKRao24 I guess it is quite a big industry. We are 'the world's largest exporter of goat meat, accounting for about 50 per cent of global trade. About 88 per cent of Australian goat meat is exported, with just 12 per cent consumed domestically. Australian goat meat exports last year (2016) totalled 26,794 tonnes, valued at almost $200.5 million'. Quoted from Weekly Times.

Sheep meat would be much more popular here too but there is some goat eaten too. My sister and nephew are more interested in breeding dairy goats. A few years ago, one of their Saanen does had the world record for milk production. They sell their goats when they can. For example, New Zealand goat breeders can buy goats from West Australia but not from the other states. Because of our stringent laws, WA goats have fewer potential diseases. He sells to Malaysia and other countries from time to time. He is also breeding and selling Nigerian dwarves and some other dairy breeds.

I'm just curious how does goats platforms look like. I think I should make some for my goats too.

It is about the size of a single bed but the base is of steel mesh. My nephew puts thick rubber on some but the goats are happy with the platform like it is. He also picks up big solid coffee tables from the tip. Here is one of the coffee tables. People throw out some really nice stuff. Some folks have more money than sense.

@ilocosboy Do you have milking goats or meat goats? Or perhaps they are just pets.

@responsiveme It can be very pleasant sitting outside rather than inside the house.

The place looks wonderful and I am sure with a garden coming up, it would be even more lovely. You were a big help with all the welding work and your sister would really appreciate it.
Glad you had a good Christmas with your sister and her sons. Merry Christmas.

That looks so warm and welcoming. I guess I never thought of goats needing platforms to sleep on, but I know that they love to climb, and I guess sleeping on mesh panels will have them off the ground away from predators, and will let the air circulate around them.
