The Crab

If there is a Filipino failing that I despise the most, it is the crab mentality.
The Filipino has character traits much to be commended, and many will say I'd rather talk about those positive points.
But I want to get rid of this crab thing, before it gets worse.
You know the nature of the crab when those crustaceans climb up, they try to pull down the ones on top.
Although there must not be a generalization, the Filipino is exactly that.
For example, I know of young people who, in their desire to make their lives better, have really worked hard. Very hard. The sacrifices were tremendous. Their lives really devoted, to their families mostly.
Whenever I hear of these young people's stories, one of whom has bought a humble house and another a condominium unit for their families, before they turned 28, I do feel so happy for them. Elated, actually, and admire them totally for the lifetime achievement.
Sadly, I hear other people put them down and trivialize their stories Sigh. These people just don't want others to succeed. Sigh.
Oh crab.

@eileenleyva This mindset applies to china, india, indonesia, nepal, and almost every asian country. the reason being we were invaded. our local culture and religion was taken from us and we were christined by the british and spanish invaders. we lost our identity when we were slaved by british and other european invaders. that's how the mentality got developed in asians.

@eileenleyva Yes natives our original ancestors didnt. but once they started ruling with what left of those tribes. they put slave mentality in the asians. and that mentality is so strong. for example, we love anything shown on american tv but if we see the same from other asians we make fun of each other. it was added in our mindset when europeans started ruling asia. it is very deep.

I for one is happy with my friend who has become a successful realtor.

I agree. I know of OFWs who have shared stories about their experiences with co-workers who aren't Pinoys and they have complained about them. Envy is part of our flawed nature. We just can't seem to be happy with the accomplishments of others. Well, we could try and be genuinely happy for them or appreciate their achievements.

Yes, it is always advisable to avoid crustaceans. They bite. Painful. The sting will penetrate and cut your flesh, if not sever your soul.
Enjoy the crab, I love eating these shelled creatures, too.

And to think there is greater joy that fills our hearts when we feel elated and happy when people succeed.
Singapore is a rich nation, it is us who must envy your people, especially after the movie Crazy Rich Asians.

@id_peace I am shocked.
All of us here are in complete admiration of how your country had set the standard in Southeast Asia. The aim is how to be like Singapore.

@responsiveme That is sad. I know your people are well read, and reading maketh a people. Surely there must be few who has this negative way of thinking.
My people yet has to stick their noses into books. After the formal education years, no one seems to be interested in flipping pages. But we are trying to change that by bombarding the malls with book sales. Ha ha
